Probably not too young so long as you put a pillow along the side of the bed that he/she can roll out of. My 4 year old rolls out of bed sometimes and he is on the bottom bunk which is a double bed! At times like this I wish I had a safety rail.

At 4 years of age, your child should be able to sleep with out the rails, some children do tend to roll off thier beds once or twice if they are used to having rails, ( I did) As was suggested, something soft around the bed should work if you are worried. But definity, yes, taking the rails down is perfect for a four year old. They would be happy to finnally have a "big kid" bed!

I think I took them off my son's bed when he was 2 1/2 or three. I waited until he quit waking up leaning on the safety rail. I have a 2 1/2 year old who still sleeps with the rail because most of the time I find her sleeping right against it- she's a squirmy sleeper. If your 4 year old still seems to be all over the place when sleeping then you'd probably wait, but otherwise go ahead and tak it down. Good Luck!

4 years old is a little late to be removing them. Generally, it's safe to remove the rails after your child has a good idea as to how large their bed is and won't be injured or otherwise affected if they do happen to fall off, and at 4 years old, she should be fine without them. She'll probably even be excited that she gets to have a regular big girl bed!

I took my daughter out of her crib at the age of 1 years old and
she has been sleeping on her bed for 9 years. She didn't fall off her bed. My grand-daughters were both out of their cribs at the
age of 8 months and they both did well on twin beds, one is 4
years old and the other is a year old. They both been doing good.
But remember everybody is different, so try one night to see with,
then if fails then put on the rail until they are stable. But if she is
not a wild sleeper, then I would try the with out first. She is 4 years old and needs to start sleeping without.

I have a 24 month old in a child bed with no safety rails and it is not a problem.

Because they were climbers both of my kids were out of cribs at 10 and 11 months old The toddler bed rail was never used. Just put a couple of blankets on the floor just in case he/she does roll out. After a few days you will see that the pallet is not needed

my son went to his big bed at 18 months and never had safety rails. he does have a full size bed and till he was 2 i had it pushed into the corner. he has only fell out of bed one time. i definitely think 4 is big enough to sleep without the rails, but you know your child better than we do.
good luck. SD

no, but it depends on the child and your safety comfort level.
a 4 yr old should be capable of staying in a bed w/o rails.

I never used a saftey rail, but I would assume you would not need to use it if they child has learned the boundries of there bed when sleeping.
