Iraqi's did take part in the attacks on September 11th. Just because their own people are victims doesn't mean they are off the hook. They're in part to blame due to the fact that they didn't put forth effort to warn us - and they certainly don't stand up for themselves.
Why have we lost 3,000 American soldiers? Because this is a war - a war that our country has taken upon its shoulders to help those in need. Regardless of your beliefs on this subject, you shouldn't question the soldiers or any war they're fighting in. They need support and deserve the utmost respect.

The best to look at this is we have not lost more and have lost fewer troops and have better care for our wounded than any time in the past.
Our own civil war was a very bloody war. some times there would be that many loses in one battle. WW1 & 2 Trench war fare and gas attacks losses were very heavy. The losses on D Day alone were about double that. Korea was a heavy loss war but we started to use things like MASH units and helecoptor pickups. In Viet nam the losses were about 5000 a year. In Iraq the losses are 3000 for the several years we have been there.
War has always been in our "World" and is likely to be so in the future. It is not that we will always be attacking someone Because there are plenty out there who would attach us and others. So we go to war! The thing is we can do it if we have to and we sustain fewer losses than at any time in the past. We must be able to do that and do it well because others out there endever to do it well. (Hitler like war makers who want to conquer the world, Which Likely Would Include conquering us.) and lots of tinplated dictators who what to be in control of what ever part of the world they can. It would nice if we didn't lose any, the object of war is engage and destroy your opponent. We Lost 3000 troops in Iraq because we have not yet figured out a way to engage in military actions and not have any losses.

i like the first answer. people get angry we have lost so many. but these are the same people who PLEADED to bush to do something to bring justice after 9/1, when bush says stay the course nothing can be more right. the generations we won war the big wars too, had the BIGGEST support from the homeland and thats why we havent have a war on our homeland since 1812. But like Nam there is little support here and it sickens me. dont know bout u but i want to personally see this one carried out. if we had finshed nam we would being dealing with them no either.

Because casualties are an unfortunate part of war. If the leftist politicians and media would let our military fight instead of telling them to play nice, this would probably be over. But instead, we have to treat the ENEMY with respect. The same ENEMY that would gladly cut YOUR head off if given the chance.
I wonder how many more people would have died if we didn't invade Iraq and topple the brutal regime there. People are protesting the genocide in Darfour. Where were these same people when Hussein was in power? He raped, tortured, and murdered his own people!

We all know Iraq did not do 9/11, why do you pinheads keep bringing that up. Saddam did however openly give money for suicide bombers who did kill Americans, he violated UN sanctions etc, etc. Grow up, stop the rhetoric and trolling.

For one last chance to help the people of the middle east join the family of man.
If the Iraqi's can not shake off the terrorists that kill them and hide among them they will be lost forever.
The Americans have given them a chance no other country is willing to give.
They must seize the opportunity.
If they don't and the dictatorships of the middle east continue to threaten the west, I fear many more will die.

Because The Bush Administration is nothing but a war mongering team of people who want to get into the oil business for their own personal, selfish interests (it has nothing to do with the American people or about the war on terrorism). It is a war about wealth. It is not an honourable war. American troops are dying so that the wallets of evil, money-hungry politicians, can get fatter.

The short answer? The administration and military failed to anticipate the insurgency, plan for and execute the occupation correctly, and has been slow to adapt conventional units to unconventional warfare. The long answer? Entire books have been written on the subject. Try "Fiasco" by Thomas Ricks or "Cobra II" by Mike Gordon.
