Last April. my brother asked us for a loan, I borrowed against a credit card to give him $6500. He paid us back $1000. Since then, he sends me nasty text messages telling me what a ***** I am for wanting the money back. I have a husband, two kids ( under 11) , three mortgages( we own two businesses, two car payments, etc.) How can I make him realize that he has hurt us financially! I have such guilt over putting my family in this situation. I don't want to hate him but I do! Please, What can I do to get this money back! I will do anything, i will Prosecute him! how do i do this? Has anyone else had this happen to them? He will not respond on the phone, he only sends me hateful text messages.

Small claims court but you have to prove he intended to pay you back and he understood it was a loan not a gift.

OOH. I am guessing you don't really hate him or you wouldn't have loaned him that kind of money in the first place. You are very resentful and hurt by him is a better way to put it.

You definately have to make him pay his responsibilities just like you are. You would be better off taking a bank loan than having 6500 on credit. The interest rates will kill you. get the money off the credit card and start paying it back. But go to small claims court and fight him. I hope you have proof of the payback of the $1000 (shows his intent to pay you back). Would be even better if he signed a contract with you.

GOOD luck. If he continues to send hateful messages, that is a form of harrassment. Of course, you cannot respond to them or you are in the same boat as he is with them.

You can also contact a lawyer who works pro-bono. Means he only gets paid if you do. you may not get all your brother owes you back, but most would be better than none.

I had that happened to me. It sounds like it court time. I know you love your brother but if he sending you that much hate messages then it's time for you to show him that you guys are not kids anymore. Just save your hateful text messages and if you have anything that says you took out the loan for him go for it.

Bad move cause now he has the attitude that because u own 2 businesses he believes u have the money to throw around.Did the money go straight into his bank account u need to prove u gave it to him before u can do anything.

Sue him. Don't even feel bad. He's wrong. Don't ever borrow money to lend someone else money. Bad idea. I'm sure you learned your lesson. Save those messages and proof. You're going to need it. Good Luck

Just because he is your brother you should not lend money to him. He is at good at sweet talking you into you giving him money without paying it back. You need to put your foot down. The rule of thumb with lending money to friends and family is to write down an agreement with a due date of the returned money.
