I am 15 years old. I wear a size 7-8 and I am trying to get down to atleast a 5. I play sports and stuff, but I think I am overweight. I notice though, that a lot of people I know, either my own height, or shorter than me are heavier. I don't look like I weigh 150, everyone says I look like I weigh 120-130. Should I even bother? Is it true muscle weights 3x more than fat? Does anyone else have any other advise? Also, I am african-american and I have big thighs (they aren't HUGE!) Is there anyway I can slim them down a bit?

First of all, it is true, muscle weighs 3x more than fat. Unfair, isn't it?

About weight, (just to give you my personal opinion) I don't think that it matters. What really matters is how you feel about the way you look.

For example, let's say that there are two scenarios:

1) You weigh 125 lbs, but you are chubby; you don't have any muscle.

2) You weigh 160, but you have toned muscles and look good.

Now, if you could choose one of these scenarios to be true, wouldn't you choose 2? Sure, you might weigh more if you chose option 2, however you would look better than someone who chose option 1. And chances are, if you look slimmer; have a more athletic build, people will simply assume that you weigh less than the chubby 125 lb person! Strange how our world works, isn't it?

Given what you have stated about yourself, I would say that you are by no means overweight. A healthy weight for an athletic, 5'6'' teenage girl is around 145-150. However, it is important that you feel good about the way you look, and if you want to try and lose some weight, go for it! Exercising keeps you healthy even if you don't need to lose weight.

As for advice on how to slim down, consider first of all that you are 15. Many teenage girls who were chubby, even overweight in their earlier pre-teen to teenage years found that as they grew taller throughout ages 15-19, they also became slimmer. Add in exercise, and you really can't lose! For advice on thigh workout techniques, try picking up a teen magazine, such as CosmoGirl, Seventeen, or Teen People. These magazines usually include workouts designed especially for teens, along with juicy celebrity gossip :)

Best wishes!

Wow, even from a girl's perspective, I think you look great. You look like you must have a lot of muscle because you have a very shapely body. And yes, muscle does weigh 3 times more than fat. I would just recommend doing some cardio, maybe 20 minutes 3 or 4 times a week, not just to lose some weight, but for the health benefits. Measurements are a more accurate ... measure of your body's state, not weight.

If you be trained nothing for your existence, gain knowledge of this. Diets handiest work at the same time you are ON them. Whenever you get off them the burden comes back and it's even more difficult to eliminate. You need to get more exercise. Something way which you can to burn calories. Strolling is invariably a great way to do that. If you have a canine, satisfactory to take it for an extended walk. For a minimum of a half hour daily, a excellent brisk walk. We acquire weight when we devour greater than we burn off. In the event you simply cut in 1/2 what you most often eat, you're going to shed weight. Stay away from sugar. Pop is a terrible source of this. And a few juices. Potato chips and so on. Are also awful for you. In the event you simply cut out the junk food, by myself, you're going to observe a change. No more french fries. No extra burgers. No more jelly beans. The slower you lose the burden the longer it stays off. Five kilos every week at most is tops. Additionally, if that you can build muscle by some means, muscular tissues support us to burn calories turbo. For this reason people who determine will do cardio sooner or later and weights the next. Get active. Reduce your calorie consumption however do not starve your body. If you happen to put it right into a hunger mode it holds onto the calories to survive. Several small healthful snacks a day are better than one just right meal. Then the physique will get cozy and says adequate...Go forward...Lose weight. Additionally, drink a pile of water. It flushes the toxins out of your body and keeps your process flushing food by way of. Make sure your source of water is healthy. Excellent luck sweety!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

Technically African Americans have a tendency of eating more than whites do. Do not worry. I am a white female at age 17 and weigh 184. I am not fat but little chubby. I grew up eating pizza almost everyday everyother weekend and my dads side of the family cooked alot of deep fried food and eating out alot. It is really all what you eat. Other ideas can be other than eating habits is genetics. My mom side of the family is mostly big and few small sized frames vs my dads which is all large. I am not bad for my age nor height. Usually the taller you are, the more you weigh vs the smaller and more your body has a stumpy frame, you are overweight. It can also be a genetic problem where you simply cannot help it. I played sports and have muscular thighs and rear end (meaning my butt) and only problem is mid section and hips. I am also 5' 6" and proud of who I am and what I look like. It can be worse but you should not worry. Do not change who you are for anyone and everyone should be comfortable with their body.

I learned recently in school that With as popular as nutrition, fitness, and diet fads are nowadays, it’s quite surprising to learn that the rates of being overweight and obese are on the rise. According to the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) in the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the prevalence of obesity in the United States has doubled in the past two decades. Nearly one-third of adults are obese--that is, they have a body mass index (BMI ) of 30 or greater. Over the last two decades, the prevalence of being overweight among children and adolescents has increased substantially; it is estimated that as many as 16 percent of children and adolescents are overweight, representing a doubling of the rate among children and tripling of the rate among adolescents.

Understanding how many calories fat provides can help you determine how many calories from fat are in the food you consume. For example, if you look at a food label that lists that a product contains 10 grams of fat and a total of 150 calories, you can calculate what percentage of fat calories it contains. Using this example, you'd calculate that the product contains 90 fat calories out of a total of 150 calories. This equates to a percentage of 60% calories from fat.

(Example: 10 (grams of fat) x 9 (calories per gram) = 90 fat calories. Next, take 90 (fat calories) divided by 150 (total calories) = .60. To turn this into a percentage, multiply .6 x 100 = 60% fat calories.)

As you can see, just a small amount of fat has a large amount of calories compared to it's counterpart macronutrients. Therefore, it's easy to understand how overeating fat can very quickly add up extra calories and lead to excess weight gain

I would not worry. Be happy with you and dont change for anyone. You are a tall young women. And when I clicked your photo link, I was impressed and would rather have a body that is your size.

No, I don't think you should lose weight. You look amazing and very slim. If you are worried, have your body fat percentage checked. And you know big thighs aren't a bad thing, but I'm finding it difficult to accept that your thighs are in any way big! You look fantastic. Take care : )

Yes muscle does weigh more than fat, I would be willing to bet you look just fine. But if your not happy with the way you are look at how you eat now and isolate one of your weaknesses, suck as pop or chocolate, and cut that one thing out from your diet.

Squats are good for thighs, and aerobic exercises to just slim down overall, so they work for thighs too...The treadmill or eliptical machines are good, or if you don't go to a gym, jogging seems to work
Good luck!
