Hey, i tried a little experiment at home. Okay i have brought white pinto beans (dry ones that are meant for cooking) from the store and what i did was i put them in a transparent ziploc bag covered with moist paper towels and several airholes on the sides. I then placed this bag right next to the light bulb (it has white light). After 2 days, two of the beans sprouted....what should i do?

Should i get some soil and plant them there, or should they stay in the bag for a bit longer? What are some 'homemade' nutrients i can make for the pinto beans (using in-home products like fish bones, shrimp shells...etc.) and do you think it will work??

Cooking seeds are of unknown age and unknown storage history. Thus, they have much lower germination rates than seeds marketed to gardeners. They often need to be surface sterilized with very dilute Chlorox solutions to avoid fungal contamination. In most cases, there is no need to germinate seeds in the presence of light. You can put your seeds in a soil filled cup under about an inch of soil. The seeds have stored up enough minerals that it is not necessary to fertilize them until weeks after germination. Fish bones and shrimp shells are rich in calcium, a mineral that probably is not limiting the growth of your bean seedlings. Maybe you could try ashes as a fertilizer.

look up mung bean sprouts, google it, oh i mean yahoo it you can grow indoors without any soil, only water it 2 times aday, will be ready to eat in 5 days, it's grow from green bean, I eat it 3 meals a day, it cost me less than 50cent each day the house light won't be enough sun for your pinto beans, you have to give it sun light, it takes too much effort to grow those, but for fun you can practice growing indoors next to a window, just remember I told you this will be alot of work

This is pretty easy. Just soak the beans overnight in a bowl of water. You can plant them in the morning in a pot filled with potting soil. Keep it moist and you should see some sprouts within a couple of days. Happy growing.
