My husband has plugged up ears BADLY!! We have tried the drops you put in and they dont help much. We have tried flushing it with warm water and peroxide. We dont know what else to do!! We cant afford to go to the doctor about this!

There is one thing that my husband had heard about and it involved rolling some newspaper and lighting it on fire and it will pull out the ear wax...does that really work? if so how do you do it?? we are willing to try almost anything to get his ears unplugged!!!

Sorry to hear about your problem! Yes, as someone who previously answered your question said, there is a procedure called "ear candling" or "ear coning" where you use an ear candle or newspaper to pull wax out of someone's ears.

I would recommend using the ear candles and not newspaper. Newspaper burns too quickly and there are some that say that the ink used to print the newspaper will release too many toxins.

Ear candles or ear cones cost $2 to $5 each and usually can be found at health food stores, places that sell herbs and organic produce. I bought my last batch from the local farmer's market.

There used to be dozens of websites on the Net discussing the art of ear candling. I don't know if they still have them up or not. It's a two person process with one person lying down with the ear candle in their ear and the other monitoring to make sure the flame doesn't get too close to the person lying down, making sure the candle isn't straight up and down but is at a slight angle, etc. Afterwards, be sure to put a little olive oil in the ear!! A lot of people skip that step and can wind up with an ear infection.

Good luck!

Hi there. What you're referring to is called ear candling. Don't do it! I work for an ear, nose, and throat office, and physicians strongly discourage this ear candling for several reasons. First of all, you can burn yourself. Second, it doesn't work. If you look around on the internet, or talk to someone who's done it, you'll hear "success stories". People will marvel on all the gunk that comes out of the ear. BUT, this is nothing more than the wax that's melted onto the paper, so it's pretty much like an optical illusion. If your husband's ears are truly impacted, there are most likely big, hard, solid plugs of wax in his ear canals. These plugs of wax need to be removed from the ear by a doctor. Using Q-tips are NOT a good idea because you can push the wax against his ear drum, which can be painful and can cause damage. He really needs to see a doctor. It's also possible that he doesn't have a wax impaction, but maybe there's fluid behind the eardrums that needs to be treated. I know you said you don't have the money, so maybe check and see if there's a free clinic in your community. A lot of medical offices will arrange payment plans. He'll feel so much better getting that wax cleared out, and he'll probably be surprised at how much better he can hear. Good luck, and please promise me you will not stick burning newspaper in his ears! Happy New Year!

Here is a method I have used that works great. Peroxide will certainly soften earwax but if it is impacted it takes some force to take it out. burning paper will do nothing except burn your husband or burn your house down.
First you will need a water pik dental appliance that you can get for 30 dollars.
Next put peroxide in the affected ear and let it bubble for a while. Turn the ear down towards the sink, this is a 2 person procedure. Now fill the waterpick with warm water, and turn it on. Turn down the power on the pick fairly low and aim the water jet into the ear. Keep it there, wax may not come out at once, and if your hubby gets a little dizzy this is normal don't worry. Now stop and put more peroxide in the ear, and repeat the with the water pick. You may slightly increase the power if needed and do this procedure a couple of times and soon you will see junk flying into the sink and your hubby will be good as new. He will thank you sooo much he will buy you a new Lexus.

The kits you buy in the pharmacy for ear wax removal really do work but not in 1 days time. You have to put the drops in and lay on your side for a few minutes until the thick liquid slowly runs down into your ear.And you have to do it several times a day for a couple of days before you use the warm water and suction thingy. You have to fill it up with warm water and fill your ear then suck it our again over the sink. It will work and you won't believe how much earwax will come out. The other thing you are talking about can be bought at a health food store and its more of a candle/wax type thing. I don't know the details about it but my nephew has used it several times.

I am a nurse and have worked in a doctor's office where we used warm water and peroxide, but we placed it in a normal over the counter Water Pic like you would use for your teeth. The pulsating water seems to help break this up. I have unclogged some nasty ears with this system. Do about 3-4 minutes in each ear then maybe 4 hours later do it again.

Make a bag out of some cheesecloth. Put in a few ounces of salt. heat the salt in a microwave, for about a minute. Place this on a pillow, and cover with a towel. Have your husband lay with his ear on the towel. This should start the wax to melt. If the salt doesn't seem to be hot enough, increase the time in the microwave in 15 second increments, until, your husband says that it is too hot. Be careful, not to burn anyone.
