Its new to my home and is a maltese. Its about 4 months old. Most of what it does is sleep. Is it sick or is this just how puppys are to new homes. It just naps on the ground on a blanket

Puppies sleep! Depending on the breed you get, some will be more active, and some will be more laid back, but this puppy is still very young. Usually puppies don't start getting very active until about six to nine months old. I got my dog when she was six months, so give it a little while. If it doesn't get better by then, go see the vet and see if it has an illness.

Puppies sleep most of the day...about 22 hours, just like a baby.

Our doberman puppy sleeps almost all day too. Our vet says that it was perfectly normal. Ours will eat, go outside, and play all in about 2 hours then sleeps about 3-4 hours and then she does the same thing all day long. So its normal, dont be worried.

We just bought a 8wk old 2 days ago and she sleeps a lot too... virtually all day the day we brought her home. You need to remember a puppy is just like a baby... they're new to the world and are still getting used to the outside world...
Just make sure you try to play with it and keep it active ... they usually like to play a bit too....
Hope this helps.

if she less than 6 months old it is normal i just took my shih tzu puppy to the emergency clinic she is 6 weeks old and i thought she was sick because she was playing and all of a sudden she stop and slept for a long time she was really tired we couldn't get her to keep her eyes open so we went to a vet and he said they get tired really easy at that age. plus they are home sick he said just let her rest they will play again. hope that help you

Your dog is now in its Socialization Period of its life. During this stage it should be exploring, playing more than ever, and being introduced to new things. Malteses' are not sleepy dogs, I recommend seeing a Vet.

Puppies are like human babies they need a lot of sleep. This is when they grow and develop. Be grateful for it now she will eventually sleep less and be more frisky and playful.

That's perfectly normal. Puppy's are just like baby's, they need there sleep. When we got our dog, she slept a lot to.

Puppies do sleep alot but, while awake it should be full of life!!!! IF IT DRAGS AROUND AND NEVER WANTS TO PLAY IT COULD BE SICK!!!! If it is easy to wake and loves to play when awake it probably is fine!!! BUT, IF IN DOUBT, TAKE IT TO A VET THAT WILL ease your mind!!!
