a hepatic test which should include enzymes like ALK, ALT, ALP etc costs medicare about $20. I am not sure about retail pricing, but you should ask before you get anything done if you are paying it. Many doctors run their own labs, and are looking to make $$$$ so it may not be in your best interest to have testing done. They often have everyone do a test, especially cash patients because they will make the most money off of you. Sadly diagnostics is big money(40 billion a year!) Most HMOs negotiate cheap prices with the doctors or reference labs.
Regardless, you should have a complete metabolic test (including liver) done at least every 5 years, or immediately if it is suspected you may have a liver condition.
So ask the lab how much it will cost, and ask your doctor how necessary it is if you are paying for it out of pocket. liver panels are in general not expensive, but if they add special chemistries, or tests on hormones, it becomes really expensive quick. Do not be afraid to ask the price, it is your right to know! If everyone asked prices and how necessary the proceedure is, our insurance would not cost so much!
Many doctors just check off everything they can get paid for with no regard for who is paying for it.

IT VARIES BY STATE AND LABS. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO TO A CLINIC OR THE HEALTH DEPT.AND BE CHARGED BASED ON YOUR INCOME. CALL THE LOCAL HEALTH DEPT. AND ASK WHAT PROGRAMS THEY HAVE FOR INDIGENT OR PEOPLE WITH LITTLE OR NO INCOME. GOOD LUCK. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS BECAUSE I FORGOT TO TURN THEM OFF.
