desperate times in a pagan society. more more more and everyone is miserable. all they aquire does not satisfy. the planet is being destroyed... i am 50 years old and have seen the steady deterioration non-stop. for every advancement of improvement there are 2 setbacks. religion is an empty promise that does nothing to fulfill but people dont know where else to turn. spirituality is nearly impossible to acquire without the most insense pain or suffering to open you up to recieving it... and religin is NOT the way. people are drowning in STUFF and more STUFF and they are like drug addicts who keep filling themselves and it does not work.

these are sad times.

"In the mid-80s some 33 percent of respondents told the Gallup Poll they had been "born again"; by the early 2000s the number had climbed to 44 to 46 percent." 'American Theocracy by Kevin Phillips.

The numbers seem to have surged after 9/11 but fell back to 42% by 2005 according to the end notes in Phillips' book. Maybe tragedy is conductive to evangelism here. Also, we have a 'born again' president.

Evangelism. (Meaning: sharing the Good News.)

I think because the term Evangelical has become a catch-all. It has become so broad that people tend to use it for almost anybody going regularly to a church. I have been refered to as an Evangelical, but I totally reject that label.

Where are your statistics to prove that the number of evangelicals is on the rise in the U.S.?

1. Misinterpreted biblical Scripture
2. Publicity (TV, Websites, Radio, etc.)
3. The Change in the Religious Makeup of the US. (The Fast growing Secular, Muslim and Pagan movements)
4. Fear
5. A sense of belonging to a cause.

Although you may not have mentioned stats that prove that, I do agree there's some truth in that statement. I attribute the rise to the work of God Himself. Before Jesus went, He said believers should "preach the gospel to all nations.." (Matthew 28:19-20). I believe this is a result of the Church taking that up more and God helping us to do so.

lowering of the national IQ!
just kidding!
can you clarify what you mean by "evangelical"?
I ask because to some people evangelical simply means to belong to a group that calls itself evangelical.
To others, it is to actually perform the activity of evangelizing an a determined, organized and consistent way.

I think, because of everything that's happening in the world, alot of people are afraid, and our government isn't doing anything for them, so, they look for something else they can hold onto !! People want answers, and, many religions give them, right or wrong. That is why religion can be dangerous.
Looking inward, scares alot of people, so if someone tells them what to think & do, that makes their life so much easier.

The Evangelical PR machine. I don't actually think there has been the rise they report.
