Atheists are certainly not angry... (all of the time.)
Angry probably isn't the right classification though, is it .. it might be closer to frustrated?
We're somewhat like the parents of two year old children, you know, and we can appear somewhat anxious and disappointed and frustrated all at the same time - waiting for underdeveloped minds to grow into reason makes the time seem to move a lot more slowly than you could guess. But angry? Always? No way.!
I guess we can be angry sometimes, though. It all depends on how many stupid questions and answers we have to deal with from y'all, the God-idea crowd, here on Y/A.
You might be surprised to know that for me, whenever I'm away from this site, out in the real world or with family and friends and doin' whatnot... I'm just as ordinary and as KOOL as any good Antichrist you'd ever wanna meet. I just spend all my free time reekin' havoc and raisin' Holy Hell and that keeps me from being angry - it's probably because at least that makes reasonably good sense.
Thanks for the question and have a Happy and God-free New Year.
(Oh yeah... my flavor would be "Rocky Road for God and His Friends."

I think so this place has many angry people period not just atheist if you look in all fairness you will find just as many angry people of different faiths if not more .I still don't believe you preacher but it seems he is a bit biased or prejudiced .At best some of the atheists i've heard from get a little irritated by the opposing view's arrogance at times and this is understandable.

Perhaps there is not a sample population of atheists on yahoo answers representative of the group as a whole.
Consider that you might find that the ones who have less strong feelings about it and less to say about it are probably not doing as much public posting on internet forums.
It is difficult even in organized polling of individuals to get accurate information about some group that those people belong to. So, do not assume that what you have seen here reflects atheists as a whole.
You might also consider that atheists are rather looked down on in modern western society by a large portion of the population. They are often misunderstood and misjudged, so perhaps they have some reason to be upset.
I have read many comments aimed towards nonbelievers saying things like they are ignorant, blind, arrogant, and are going to burn in hell for eternity. When people hear things like that gives them a fairly decent excuse to be upset that they have been so judged and threatened.
Look on http://www.the-brights.net/ and you may understand them a little better.

I'd hardly call this forum representative of the "real world". The atheists I know aren't angry. They're just regular people who tend to focus on logic and self-reliance as the basis of their being. I am not an atheist, but I find that most of the so-called "Spiritual" postings here on Yahoo are hostile to them. I have read postings that are unfriendly to just about every religion other than Chrisitianity. If the atheists seem angry, I can certainly understand why!

I see that your preacher made a good job of brain washing you.
If you were ever taught any history, which I doubt, you must have noted that hate, atrocities and wars, have been overwhelmingly the preoccupation of religious people. Look at the crusaders, Turkish sultans, Inquisition, Hitler, Bush, Blair, Sadam, Osama Bin Laddin. With God on their side, everything they do is justified.
What scientists feel is sadness when they meet brain washed block heads. But no real harm is done.

Move to England and live in a secular country for a few years. You will have a new found cultural appreciation for the cultural rage atheists feel at living in the USA where fundamentalism permeates everything like a smothering fog, even though the fundamentalists are in the minority.
It's not even your religion that makes us angry... it's that we can't live our lives in peace without it trying to intrude on our lives. I've never had a pagan try to convert me or tell me I was going to go through a harsh purification before going to the Summerlands to be reborn. I've never had a Buddhist tell me that the nine hells awaited me if I did not achieve Nirvana. I've never had a Hindu tell me that I was in peril of the many hells if I died with painful karma. I've never had a Jew tell me that I was an evil goyim who would die without G-D to save my soul. Only Christians and Muslims. And no other faith-believers but Christians or Muslims have ever shown me hate, revulsion, or arrogance when they found out I was an atheist. In fact, the others usually enjoy hearty discussions on the nature of humanity, reality, the universe, spirituality, etc over a couple of energy drinks or coffee.

Atheists have a right to be angry, at least in the US. They have zero representation. The powers that be are always believers. The Catholic church is the biggest business in the world, yet pays no taxes. The atheist is constantly seen as the enemy of the faithful, or an ignoramus who hopefully will see the error of his ways and accept the truth.
Wouldn't you be angry if the shoe was on the other foot?

Yes, they do, but this may not be the best place to find the nice ones. At one time I thought I was one, so from my point of view it's not easy being an Atheist. Almost everyone is against your views and many faiths preach preaching, it gets annoying to even admit it. I can't remember anyone being neutral to me when I'd say I was an Atheist. 'Christians' are the worst since they at that moment feel it's their duty to convert you. Since I am on average very nice, it gets very discouraging to be having a very pleasant conversation with someone, only to have it turn ice cold in seconds after I've stated my beliefs.
There are other issues that combine to make many Atheists unruly on lists like this. Since on average they are wealthy (I mean that they have a house, a computer and can afford to be on the Internet quite often.) they have the time to be on these types of sights, trying to find something to occupy their minds. Since they also tend to have an above average intelligence they need something to occupy their minds. Now the last kicker, like the rabbis of old who would go to the temple square to argue points of faith, atheists tend to love a good debate. This means that in their minds they are far from angry, even if they just sliced you half way to shreds. Combine this all together and it can create a person who in public wouldn't swat a fly, but on a forum like this would delight in picking over issues with believers with zeal.
I do also believe that most of the atheists you find on sights like this are not true atheists, but kids who have gotten board with the other entertainments on the Internet.
True atheists are of two main flavors. The ones who haven't found anything that convinces them of the existence of a 'creator' and ones who are still searching, but have yet to find the all compelling evidence. For a long time I belonged to the last group, but have since found my evidence and now have many spiritual convictions. In general, all my friends who are still to this day not convinced, are still very pleasant to be with. Even those who can't stand that I've switched sides, still love me and call me friend. So, though this may not be the best place to find friendly Atheists. They do exist in larger numbers that this forum suggests.

Frankly, while I enjoy coming to this site, I don't see it as indicative of the general population. If the people with whom you come in contact with are similar in behavior to the people on this site, you have my condolences. I find my coworkers, friends, family, and acquaintances to be far more civil. Even my chance encounters with strangers involve 99% of the time a fair modicum of civility. Give a person a computer and a forum like this, and he/she appears to vent every bit of vehemence that has built up.

We come in all flavors.
But to believers we may seem angry a great deal because of the condescention and arrogance with which we are treated. I tend to become very annoyed when someone smugly assumes that I'm "just in denial" or "in love with my sin" or even "tricked by Satan". When confronted with an inpenetrable wall of ignorance, many atheists are inclined to become irritated or angry our of exasperation. And when there is an attempt to somehow improve the world we live in, theists of many stripes feel the need to interfere because any idea we atheists have must be bad.
