First of all, in less these dogs were part of a pack someone had put together and allowed to run loose, I doubt this was in fact a pack of pit bulls. I am not saying you have your information wrong, but the media most likely does. The media pins the breed "pit bull" to any unknown breed that attacks. Many emergency rooms list dog attacks as "pit bull" attacks if the victim does not know what kind of dog attacked them.
The only way this problem will ever get better is to have more strict guidelines for owning, breeding and selling dogs considered aggressive. This poor breed has been inbred and poorly bred for so long that we only here about the problems. Banning breed will never fix the problem because people who want aggressive, powerful dogs will continue to find new breeds.

train them.
the reason why this makes the news is because it is like a shark attack people are scared. pit's are not on the top of the list for biting they are not even in the top five. about 5 years ago i had a chi and a pit. guess which one got their *** kicked the pit. guess which one i was more afraid of the chihuahua. That s.o.b. put a huge scar on my thigh(which is way bigger than that chi's mouth.). Does anyone know why this happened. When i got the chi i was about 14 and i thought it was cute because my neighbors had a dog that would go after you if you try to get around the owner. I was 14 and very very wrong but I trained that chihuahua to do this and i got bit. I trained the pit the right way and never had any problems with him. He was a big baby. little children could go up and bite him or hit him(as most 2 year olds would do not knowing better. do you know what he would do. he would lay there and would not bother the child.
It is the person who owns the dog, who trains the dog. Anyone who owns a pet( a pet not pit any animal) should be aware that anytime it could turn. no matter the breed. Anyone who owns a pet should not let them roam around to where it could get loose to hurt anybody.
Also another thing is the boy is 15 I know what i did when I was 15 walking by a barking dog (neighbors house) i would have probably threw rocks at it or stood there like an idiot hollaring at it. I know that this don't mean the boy did this, but it could have very well been provoked.
It is not because it is a pit. the dogs were not properly contained as they should have been.
And as for animal control i know they suck in my town a very very small town, and for some odd reason we have 2 animal catchers. You could blink while driving through my town and not even realized you have done been through it. I called for 2 months for them to get 2 dogs. they never came.

I skimmed a few answers and was not surprised by what I read. The Pit Bull Terrier is not a bad dog. They have an awful wrap for a good reason. Too many people are breeding non-game dogs. They are training the instinctive behaviors with cruelty and abuse. The known pure-breed Pit does not have a human aggression. It was actually the first dog breed to reside in the White House. I do not assume the child provoked these dogs, I find it more realistic that the dogs were of a mill variety, or worse home kenneled, where the breeder took two very aggressive specimens and mated them. I do not own a Pit, I never will, but not from a fear of the aggressions. They have very powerful jaws and need to exercise them regularly. Anyone who promotes the extinction of this breed should look at their own family history; all creatures are given a bad wrap at some point. Maybe if we performed, genocide on the closed-minded people of this world the rest of us could live better and more peaceful live by not dealing with ignorance and closed-minded opinion.

Any PACK of dogs is dangerous. I'd be just as scared of a pack of 15 marauding Chihuahuas as I would pit bulls.
This isn't a pit bull issue. It's a why in the world are there packs of stray dogs roaming around the town? Aren't there any responsible owners? Why didn't animal control notice a pack of *15* dogs???
Were all 15 dogs pit bulls? If so, how do they know? Animal control officers are known to identify dog breeds incorrectly. It could have been a pack of mixed breeds or poorly bred Labs.
Punish the deed, not the breed.

Yes, I saw that on the local news as I am in the area. The packs of stray dogs running the rural counties around here is a overwhelming problem. Many of the smaller counties have NO sort of animal control at all. Except for a gun. No one enforces the state leash/confinement laws for dogs. Most don't even get a rabies shot, never seen a vet.
Our rescue is in one of the "backwoods" counties. A nightmare.
I suspect this pack of pits escaped somehow from a "fight" set up in the area. **** and dog fighting is illegal so the people go out in rural areas to avoid detection.
If it had been just a pack of mixed dogs that would make sense as that is a big problem. Strays gather in packs and become a danger to livestock usually, for food. Not as much to humans.
This was someone's pack! Trained to be aggressive and kill. Used in fight rings. And hope they can be caught. But need to find the jerks training and fighting them. They should be tried in court for the attack! Probably a Meth lab also. Big business and these dogs are being used to guard drug houses. Exposed to the drugs to make them crazy and alter their brains.
This will continue to be a problem with all the big breeds until the law really starts being enforced.

The media loves painting all dog attacks as "pit bulls." I saw a headline about a "pit bull" attack one time, that turned out to be a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. And no, people cannot always tell an APBT from a Staffie, from and American or English Bulldog.
Any group of 15 or so wild pack animals could have done exactly the same thing. A pack of chihuahuas will hunt, which is what they were doing.
The solution is to capture, spay/neuter, and possibly, much as I hate it, euthanize wild and feral dogs in areas inhabited by humans.

First, the story sounds fishy because it's undated. CNN does not post undated material.
Second, it was a PACK of pit bulls. I don't care what type of dog it is, any PACK of animals attacking anyone is going to result in injury!
I'm sorry, but this is not a story about "vicious" pit bulls. This is a story about one county's severe stray dog population. Or, it's a lie. I live in an area where there are packs of stray dogs that have banded together. And you know, not a single one of these packs consists of just one breed of dog.

that is sad and breaks my heart. Both for the poor boy and for the rest of the pitbulls that are owned by responsible people who would never allow a thing like this to happen.
Again, it is 1% of the Pitbulls that make the news with this sort of thing.
The way to prevent things like this is to boost the power of animal control enforcement. More officers and give them the power to enforce the rules.
And really make good "dangerous dog" legislation. It isn't the pitbulls per se, it is the idiot that has a pack of dogs and let's them run. I'm betting the owner of this pack of dogs has had trouble before, but nobody's been able to prosecute him on anything.
One of the major factors in all dog attacks is unneutered males. They are statistically more likely to bite.

The best way to stop dog attacks of any kind is education and stronger more reliable animal control. We have laws in place that should prevent these kinds of attacks but most animal control offices are severely under funded so they are not able to respond to every call about dogs running loose or animal neglect, all animals are what they are made meaning that if you are responsible your animals will be well mannered and lovable and if you are neglectful then your animals will run wild and think that any and all behavior is acceptable. I breed and raise APBT and when my male decides that he is tired of being out back he climbs the fence and comes straight to the front door they will be what you teach them to be lovable or wild. Any dog can be ignored and made mean or untamed or any dog can be made part of the family and even when they get loose they are not gonna hurt a fly!!! the way to help this problem is not to blame the dog completely but to understand that when we choose to bring a dog into our family that is what they should be is FAMILY!!! you would not tie your child out on a chain and forget to feed and water them so you should not treat your dog that way. We should also support our local and state animal control offices.... Meaning you should donate regularly and when looking for a new pet adopt.... As a breeder I push adoption rather than purchase from a breeder, because contrary to popular belief they are not just someone Else's problem.... they are usually turned in by someone who just was not ready to have a canine family member!!! with a lot of love and some training they can be as lovable as a puppy raised by you!!

My woman cane corso became attacked through a black lab at the same time as she became only a domestic dog and likewise through a jack russel. The lab attack became viscous and he or she wa basically screaming. the owner stood and watered her shrubs and casually requested if her canines had damage my domestic dog. i became in tears and retorted with some not so effective language and then she basically laughed at me. I referred to as animal administration and were given the perfect snigger though. My canines became o.k. and luckily, besides the actual undeniable truth that she is a dominant breed she has never exhibited canines aggression except yet another canines shows it first. interior the case of the jack russel my canines became round 4 months previous. She became leashed both circumstances through how and the different canines weren't. I heard the owner of the russel exclaim "it truly is a pitbull???" As apparently it truly is what she idea my canines became and couldn't believe my canines became hiding in concern and under no circumstances attacking decrease back. more desirable lately I keep bumping right into a lady who walks 3 canines, a shepherd, a lab and a retriever. I walk my corso and smaller blended canines with my 2 small little ones. The retriever has never bitten yet has come correct as a lot as my canines and bark, bark, bark and likewise correct in my youthful ones face. the female basically says no, no interior the softest voice and explains the canines does compared to youthful ones. i'm not the basically one which walks with youthful ones there because it really is between the basically flat youthful ones pleasant trails in our mountainous city. If it takes position lower back i visit describe how she should be correcting her canines more desirable firmly and it it takes position lower back and he or she nonetheless does not something i'd haven't any determination yet to provide her somewhat of my concepts. that's complicated though because it really is a small city and all and sundry is conscious each and every man or woman right here yet i do not opt for my youthful ones's being bit and the canines receives bolder everytime. i might want to stroll elsewhere yet experience I actually have a correct to be there if i elect to because it really is a good path.
