if i scan a photo and then in the processing i invert it i create a photo negative of sorts. but when i scan a real negative and invert it all i get is a mess. i should be able to see exactly whats on the negative and clean it up a little anyway and no matter what what i do it's just a mess. i don't get it

1. you need a scanner tha enables you to scan negatives...
2. that given, you must scan at 1200 or higher and make sure the setting is for negatives and or slides (you can fix slides in photshohop)
3, enlarge the scan to 5x7 at 600 dpi and digitally clean it up.

this should work

The scanner must be able to do negatives because a negative needs to be back lit to be scanned, a normal scanner supplies light from the front.

You need a specialist negative scanner, otherwise you are going to be catching the light through the negative!

If you don't have a specific scanner to do this a good photo lab should be able to do this for you If you are really stuck and you dont have loads to do contact me and I will do it and send them back to you.
