Look at the top part of the beak where the nostils are. The boy typically have darker colors when the girls have lighter.
Examples:

GIRL
-pink
-light purple
-light blue
-white/gray

BOY
-dark blue
-brown

I have a girl, her beak is like whitishpinkish

When I first bought my parakeet the lady at the pet store told me to look at their beeks, boy birds have a blue dot at the top of their beeks and a girl bird has a white or pink dot at the top of her beek.I have three birds and only one has a pinkish color to her beek the other two have a dark blue color if the bird is real young the color may be hard to see as they get older the color becomes more noticeable,I hope this helps this is the way i was told to tell which was male and female

This does not hold true of every color mutation but it does hold for most colors:

The cere (nose area above the beak) will begin changing color when they are 3 months...should be fully changed by 6 months.

In a health, normal parakeet the sexes are:

Blue, purplish blue or white blue is a male

Pink, brown or pinkish white is female.

You can tell by the fleshy part by the nose. See below.
Now look closely at the cere (the fleshy skin over the beak, where
the nostrils are).

MALE baby parakeets have TRANSLUCENT PINK ceres, that look a bit
like a sore thumb. The cere may have a bluish or purplish tint.
FEMALE baby parakeets have OPAQUE WHITE covering most of the cere,
especially around the nostrils. It often has a light blue tint.

Notice that in babies, the blue color is not helpful - it does not
mean you have a male. What matters is whether the skin is
translucent or opaque.

I recommend a visit to http://www.budgietalk.com

It has all the resources you need to care for your parakeet. There is a page on determining gender that shows pictures of actual birds and tells you their age and gender.

Or you can always post a picture to me and ask. :)

If I remember well, you can check between their little legs. (sound weird lol). If you put your index finger in between the legs you can feel 2 little stick like things. Now I think that if they are wide, more like V shaped, its a guy. And for the girls it should be 2 stick as well, but these should be more close together. It's hard to tell by thier beak color because it really shows for their age. Usually the colors change as they get older. So it wont really help if you want to know right a way.

Right above their bill is an area that is usually white or blue, (maybe even very light blue). The ones with blue are the males, white is female.
