Your average creationist response will be that God made the light already traveling here. This isn't disprovable, but if God exists and made the light already traveling here, it says God isn't too honest.
And you might as well ask them to explain the numerous, independent results (from fields such as archaelogy, anthropology, geology, astronomy, etc.) which all yield an earth being approximately 4.5 billion years of age.

Its thrilling which you particularly want to attempt to disprove the info approximately creation. God made the international & all issues interior the international. became any a million there to witness how previous He might have made issues seem? 6500 yrs is approximately as precise as you will get & once you goto the large Flood of Noah(this could be complicated for some) God did very marvelous issues(the fountains of the deep had burst open) all the dinos that walked the earth have been destroyed, He makes each and every thing to improve in accordance to how He wills. case in point the layers that are close to the North pole has a lot of human beings incorrect. If or once you here the certainty approximately it then it gets much less stressful to comprehend, the layers up there in accordance to three scientists is that a million layer happens in step with 365 days it is fake because of the fact whilst there became those that have been asked approximately what number layers formed in step with 365 days they stated each and every so often there could be 7 or 8(ice soften ice) even there are wood that have been frozen @ an occasion 3 hundred ft extreme that some scientists drilled into that can not be defined. different than the large Flood, please do study whilst finding, it relatively is going to be opened unto you in case you will yet seek for God & His righteousness.

It's all those iddy biddy angels shaking those iddy biddy candles my friend :)
The real problem is so may people want to take two completely different and distinct disciplines and fuse them together and make the issue "black and white". It has to be "easy" or they become uncomfortable. Faith can be like that with some folks. It's uncomfortable for many of faith when being questioned about their faith. They become intolerant because they view it as disrespectful. They want the answers to be safe and simple.
In truth, science is a discipline of fact. Faith is a discipline of belief.
I have absolutely no issues with any person of faith stating that they absolutely believe in salvation and I respect the moral strength if provides them. That is something to be honored and respected.
At the same time scientific fact is irrefutable. It's tested, retested, and retested, against scientific theory.
Frankly,
I am a Christian. I believe in my faith and Christ as my personal savior. I also respect each person and their individual right to believe or not believe as they choose. That's simple respect for individual dignity. I simply don't have all the answers. I'm imperfect.
What I also understand as an educated man, is that science and evolution and it's theory have been proven. If you truly spend time studying the research and discoveries of the past 20 years, it's impossible to come to any other conclusion. The same follows for space and time theory. We can debate the minutia but Einstein's theory is solid science. Judging the passing of time through the ultraviolet shifts in the light spectrum is irrefutable fact. What then is an educated man to assume?
Man (and his interpretations) from 2000 years ago are imperfect. God is not. We simply are misunderstanding his intent and message and getting caught up in language translations that have gone through various languages over time and are interpretations of interpretations.
A wise Jesuit told me many years ago:
Man is in the words. Man is imperfect. God is in the spirit. God is perfect.
That's about it.

If God put a star the equivalent of 1 billion years from us to reach it.doesn't prove the star is 1 billion years old just that it would take us 1 billion years to reach it.God is without Boundary's we will never know all the knowledge of of his creation. Go back to Iraq and look at the temple that is still standing today which was during the time that Abraham walked the Earth. made by the Chaldean's.you can accurately measure the age of this Earth with the ancestry of the Bible.

"By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."
Hebrews 11:3
lol no just joking. i was trying to use the type of argument that they believe is valid to prove their points. then i couldn't keep it going.
ps: to the creationists who keep trying to use the tired argument that evolution is just s theory, GET WITH IT. the only theories at this point are minor issues within the greater occurrence of evolution. to deny evolution conclusively because you get off on saying it is a theory and somehow you think it is insulting you by saying humans and chimps share a common ancestor, is just plain lack of knowledge and blind ignorance.
there are smart people who believe in god, and they also understand that evolution occurred.
the argument that evolution cannot be proven is weak and inaccurate.

Wow you ask if the earth is 8000 years old and then say, explain the stars!
How does claiming the earth is any age have anything to do with the age of the stars?

the truth is that all are theories, we can't prove that certain stars are a certain distance away until we have been to them..
there are several theories questioning the realativity of distance in space....
we don't know..
Even if we did, it doesn't mean that God didn't place them where he wanted for them to be doing exactly what they are doing now...God isn't bound by time!
We do know that in Genesis it says that God put them all in the sky for light for us during the night and used them to guide to the birth of Christ.
Going by how stars in all their magnificance are not as important as us on a tiny little planet, shows how amazing and awesome God is and how important we are to Him.

first of all its just a theory. Nothing has been proven. Carbon dating isn't as precise as you may think. the universe is an old place. there may have been many civilizations like ours on earth that have destroyed themselves many times over.
