and why do they pull random versus out of the bible to argue their points as if when we read them we are automatically refuted?
"You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?"
Matthew 23:33
ooOOOoooH! the bible says that in matthew 23:33? well, though i don't believe in the word of the bible, you were so good at intellectually proving your point! forgive me!

I don't belong to any religion, but I've been fighting cancer since I turned 24 years old (I'm 25 now and about to go in for a second bone marrow transplant)
I've met many very nice people from churches. They say they will pray for me and ask if there is anything they can do to help me and my family. But I've never heard any one of them try to guilt me into believing what they believe. Not a one has told me that I'm being "punished" for not believing what they believe. I've met many very kind people of the Christian and Jewish faiths during my hospital stays.
Religious fanatics come from each and every religion, and most often the media and polics only allow the most extreme to be heard (be it to garner support from other fanatics or the opposition trying to discredit the entire religion). Maybe you should just go to a small local church sometime and meet "real" people and not help support the political side of today's religions.
Everyone would be better off showing a bit of tolerance, rather than pointless stereotypes.

I'm sorry you had to see so many so-called Christians misrepresenting Jesus the way they do. Let me just tell you that a true Christian doesn't have any hatred for another person no matter who or what they are. A real follower of Jesus can talk and act normally with anyone no matter what they believe without forcing their beliefs on anyone. A real Christian also will never mistreat anyone or think they are better than anyone else. Please know that anyone who calls themselves a Christian and acts otherwise is fooling themselves and isn't a Christian at all. Jesus loves everybody whether they disagree with him or not.

#1 sir, i would like you to elaborate on what you mean when you say we hide behind the BIble as a use of hate and bigotry, I know some do that, However Characterising an entire group of people by a minority who are hypocrites and arent really christians in the first place is an act of dsicrimination and bigotry as well. when you say "they", cannot debate critly and think logically, you using the same hate speach and bigotry by trying to make a general characterization of all christians. there are also people who claim to be atheist, that really dont know why they are atheist. the majority of people I wittness to call themselves atheist, only because they were raised unchurched and never decided to change. I ask them to prove God dosent exist thus supporting thier dicision to be an atheist and they offer no logical reasoning. You accuse Christians of thumping thier Bible, yet many so called "atheist" can only repeat what they have been blindly taught by science books, and when called into question on subjects such as evolution, most so called intellectuals only give me the response, "wel my professer say's" or "my biology book says". I usually cut them short and tell them to answer the question, because Im asking them not thier professer. you may be right that thousands of poeple are so called Christians (actually hypocrites) who use hate speech and bigotry, but you forget that their are an estimate of billions of people who claim the christian faith as thier own. You say you are content as an atheist, fair enough, if contentment is what your looking for, then Christianity wont have much to say to you for a while. But, understand also that many things that bring contentment arent true. would you be willing to think about something if it disturbed your contentment, yet might be true? If Atheist are Open minded as they claim, then thier should be no problem. How do you know thier is no conscious existence or existense of God after death? many claim this is so, and cite the religous belivers convictions as 'wishfull thinking". but consider the fact that disbelife has the same inttelectual status, disbelife is the whishfull hope that thier is no accountabillity to anyone after death and no intrusive athourity before that time. But again, many also choose to disbelive because they have pressupositions on what they think is wrong with the church and wrong with certain christians, but remember this, you can know for sure know for sure that God exist, he has given you a conscience, and even if you have looked with lust Jesus says you have committed adultery of the heart. thier maybe a lot of hypocrite christians out there, but on the day of Judgement it will be you being held accountable for your own actions, not the actions of others. if you have lied or stolen or used Gods name in vain, God sees you as a lying thieving blasphemous adulterer at heart, and even though you may not belive, that wont stop Gods Justice from going forward, he will crush all those who are found guilty. Hell is a real place, and thats where you will end up if found guilty.
Thibk about your decision carefully, I hope your intellegent enough to get out of your comfort zone and think about your eternal destiny because one day it will be too late.
God Bless

Not all Christians are this way. Some can have open minds. It just seems that the ones that have open mouths are the ones that want to judge everyone and condemn anyone not like them. Fear is what religion sells to make money and get power. Fear is the commodity and ignorance is the result. They are not allowed to question or think for themselves or else they do not have faith and their own kind turn on them. So glad I found a better path that encourages open mindedness and and questioning.

Hey Scubadude, sorry that you've encountered so much hatred and bad experience with these 'Christians' that don't seem to explain much to you other than scripture you don't understand. But it sounds to me that they've been using the OUTSIDE of their bible rather than the INSIDE of their bible, cause if they did, they would follow the scripture that says to LOVE their neighbors and even their enemies...not hate.
Also, it's odd that you're happy to be an atheist, cause you think that being an atheist solves the problem of hatred. I just wish you could take a peek for a moment into the genuine love of God, cause if you had that kind of love, nothing would extinguish it...nothing! It's the kind of love that doesn't extinguish even in the face of hatred. So you can be comfortable and await a dark grave, or dude, you can be comfortable in knowing who the true God is who will give you perfect peace as He has given me, and find out that believing in God and being indwelled by His Spirit is the most radical thing you've ever experienced!!! Don't listen to these bible haters bro...listen to someone who has found real meaning and purpose to life, and without hate!

First, all you see are men and women, some behaving better than others.
Second, show me the verse where Jesus harmed anyone.
Religion (a way of life) is not responsible for followers not following. What you see as religious position are really political.
Can you tell me what political party Jesus was a member? Do you think God who is spirit has a kingdom on Earth?
I will keep this very simple: The only requirement Christians have can be found in 1 Cor 10:23-24. Get our your bible and read it, and then tell me how many followers are following.

Because we are to live according to GOD's word.. HE loved us enough to die in our place..
You said.....
I look at you Christians, no matter what denomination, and I am so happy that I am atheist. I don’t have to worry about who to hate from one day to the next, or who to discriminate against. I just lean back in my comfortable seat of science, knowledge, logic and watch you religious fanatics waste your lives on hate a war, fighting and arguing over gods and bibles and religious doctrine.
I pray you find the truth before its too late..

Christians that hate are not christians at all. Sorry that this is all you seem to see. I wish things were different for you. There is even a text in the Bible that says That some people who have said "Lord we did this, that, and the other thing in your name and Jesus replies, get away from Me I never knew you." Just because people claim christianity doesn't make it so they no more beleive in God than you do.

Wow - you answered your own question!! You said "so called Christians". If they were a Christian and born of the spirit of the most high God, they would not be able to think or act in the way you've described.
It seems to me that you've been wounded by someone that has disguised themselves as a Christian. Take care of yourself!!

We don't all do it. Those people are using God as a way to hurt people. Which by the way, is the true meaning of taking the Lords name in vain.
Live and let live. They're just angry and trying to control people. Which is WRONG! Just ignore them, like you would any bully.
