I think it's stupid. Prime example of it's all in the training or lack there of. I have a beagle and she is the nicest warm lovable dog I have ever had. When we got her our neighbors decided they wanted one. They ended up with one of her half brothers. Had no clue how to train a dog and he is a bites people and doesn't get along with other dogs. And if you get anywhere near him while he is eating it's an all out full scale attack. Unbelievable a viscous beagle. Never thought I would ever come across one.

I'm shocked and dismayed at most of these responses. Some of you are pushing to ban a whole breed of dog into extinction, just because you fear something you've only read very little about in the past.

A lot of you proved Breedism is real. You have hate based on sensationalism, hyped-up hard-to-believe news stories, and one-sided information. Even worse, in some of these questions about Pits tonight, some of you've added a little racism, by assuming everyone who owns a pit bull is an African-American "gangsta", who when not busy shooting up the neighborhood, puts a spiked collar on his child-eating beast, throws him a 3 yr old for a snack, and takes him to dog fights. How very racist, stereotypical, and ignorant.

Breedism isn't very different than racism. Just because a few Middle-Eastern men boarded planes and flew them into buildings, doesn't mean that all Middle-Eastern men want to, or do. Pit Bulls are being viewed in much the same light these days, and it's just as unfair to them as it is the racism going on in our own country. Not all Pits are child-eating beasts, and god forbid a Poodle ever tries protecting his yard when someone jumps your fence, your little baby just might be next on the "banned" list after all the local news stations are having a slow news night and need something new to hype up for rate competitions.

I think banning a breed of dog is silly, while a breed may have a tendency to be aggressive it does not mean that all dogs of that type will be. Pit Bulls are like all creatures ( even humans) if they are treated badly, and/or trained to be aggressive that is how they will behave if they are well trained and treated with compassion and care they can be gentle, and well behaved dogs. The key is that both dog and owner have to go to obedience school and the owner must apply what they learn and reinforce it -- another words owning a dog is work, and it goes on for the life time of the dog. Most people don't want to do that and then wonder why their dog won't behave.

It's a terrible idea. I've been around pits numerous times (one of my best friends just "lost" her third from natural causes). My hands have been in their mouths brushing their teeth I have wrestled and played with them since puppy hood. The worst I've come away with is slobber.
ALL dogs have the potential to TURN at any given moment. That is the nature of the beast. Just because they are domesticated doesn't mean the dog is totally 100% harmless. I have a friend who's nose was literally bitten off (ala Michael Jackson) by her Yorkie. All she did was pick the pooch up like she ALWAYS did and the dog attacked her face. My mother's teacup poodle attacked one of the 3 year old kids mom was babysitting, the little boy had to have stitches in his leg. It was unprovoked, the child was a regular at the house, the dog knew the boy the boy did not TOUCH the dog...the dog just lunged and bit him for no reason. So if you're going to ban pits. Ban Yorkies, Poodles, German Shepherds, English Sheepdogs, Boxers, Doxie, Cockers, Beagles, Wolfhound, Setters, Vezulas,Chiuauas, Shelties, Bulldogs, Shiztus, PBGVs, Scotties, Jack Russels...etc,etc,etc

People who do not train their dogs or train them to be aggressive will always find another dog to use if communities ban pit bulls. Pit bulls are not the problem, ignorant, stupid people are the problem. Banning ignorant, stupid people would be a much better solution to not only dog attack problems but most of the woes of the world.

I think it's dumb.

Pit bulls have a problem right now in that they are attractive to the criminal element, because they look mean. Dobermans and Rottweilers had the same problem a few years ago.

If they're banned, does anyone believe this criminal element will stop breeding and fighting them? A law will only stop those people who obey the law in the first place.

So, it will effectively only get rid of the good dogs.

This is not to mention that you're more likely to be bitten by a Cocker Spaniel than a Pit, and more likely to be struck by lightning than be bitten by any dog.

I do not think pit bulls should be banned. I say ban the people who train these poor dogs to be mean. I had a pit bull named Petra for 10 years and she was one of the sweetest dogs ever. I never abused her. Petra loved every one, even my cats and even children. I think it is how you raise them. Ban the bad people, that's what I say

I live in Flint Mi, and have seen the conditions that a lot of owners keep their pit bulls living in. They are trained by stupid owners to be aggresive and attack people and other animals. For some reason, they are a status symbol in Flint and if i were Mayor I would ban them in the city ASAP. With that being said I know people who have Pit Bulls and they can be loving, protective dogs. It depends alot on the owner. Cities should have large fines for these owners if their animals are found to kept in dangerous conditions

Banning a Pit bull breed of dog is like banning an ethnic breed of Human Beings! It makes no sense!!

Ignorant fools take strong dogs and torture, abuse; starve etc to make them dangerous. If you did this to a human child (regardless of race / breed) you would get the same result!!!

People that abuse these dogs should be prosecuted to the same extent as child abusers, if not worse because dogs cannot speak for themselves!
