I'm 17 years old, in fairly good shape. I'm a figure skater, but I'm taking 2 months off for several reasons; one being that I'm going to Germany for three weeks in February. I am 5ft tall and weigh between 118 and 120 pounds (it seems to differ week to week). I really want to get down to 110-115 before I leave for my trip.

My weakness is chocolate, and I don't have the self-control to stop myself from eating it. My sister also doesn't help, because she can eat whatever she wants (she's a dancer of 16+ years), and if I see her eating a bag of cookies, i don't feel guilty eating some with her. Since I'm not skating for the time being, I don't have anything to counter-act the way I eat. I've been doing crunches(50-70 a night, not much but I'm working on it) every night for the past 3weeks. I'd go to the gym, but the memberships are really expensive.

Does anyone have any good advice, tips, or some (and hopefully simple) recipes for more healthy food choices? (esp. snacks)

Sometimes you have to give up the chocolate for a bit & replace with other fruits, etc....your body does actually crave certain things like chocolate because your sugar levels are out of wack, but by choosing healthy foods/fruits, etc that you enjoy, the levels will balance & you won't even crave the chocolate any more. Don't push yourself too much about losing weight. It may damage your body. I lost a few pounds by running up and down the stairs 20 times a day. So do that, 10 runnings in the morning and 10 in the night or mid afternoon. Make sure to drink plenty of water. If your weakness is chocolate, only take about a few because it has a lot of calories. Good luck!

You can still eat your chocolate but learn how to make better choices in other foods. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Find out about fastest way to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs, water retention and secret trick used by models to flatten their tummy before an event.

Reading a book will take you hours but the information on a post, taking minutes to read, is not enough. The webpage below has just enough to know what you need to know. Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

I suggest other exercise, like jogging or biking
Go to the grocery store and spend a while looking for healthy snacks, or surf online (there are pleanty of good sites out there)

Also important, talk with your sister. Ask her not to eat in front of you
