Cawdor is murdered and gives way for MACBETH...
Macbeth starts his career now, his former title is already history...

(Uh, I like Shakespeare.
And "Macbeth" is my favorite drama-masterpiece
--- Esp. Lady Macbeth, when she starts:
"The raven himself is hoarse..."
Stop !!! I am frightening ! )

I think it's saying, That someone should announce the death of the Thane of Cawdor, and confer his title onto Macbeth.

Before becoming king of Scotland (through murder and mayhem), Macbeth was the Thane of Cawdor.
Duncan is stripping him not only of his head, but also the title that was ill-gotten.

This is the moment when McBeth declares himself king, after betraying and killing Thane of Cawdor. With this quote his justifying his malevolent act, as an act of justice, saving the people from a deceitful ruler. (mmmhh that reminds me of something...)
