I had plenty of pieces. I had 3 queens and plenty of other worthy pieces. My best guess is that my friend decided to quit the game early? that sucked...robbed me of my victory.

You ran out of time. That's the only way that you could have gotten a draw. Although, with three queens, it's quite possible that you stalemated your friend.

I cannot see why this was a draw according to the rules of chess, since the move c7-b6 was available to black without putting the king in check (which would have been a stalemate which is a special kind of draw), and you still had enough material to check the opponant's king, additionally there was neither three move repetition nor 50 turns without caputre.

The only thing I can find according to the rules of chess from prior to July 1st 1997, but apparantly the differences in the rules aren't noticable for home play (being things like enforcing short algebraic notation for notating games) is that if you were playing a game with a time limit, if your time limit ran out against a bare king, that would have been a draw (if it wasn't a bare king, your opponant would have won), but I do not know if Yahoo! Chess implements timed games or not.

You can find the rules of chess at http://www.chessvariants.org/fidelaws.html (from prior to June 1st 1997) and the current rules can be found at http://www.fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=EE101

Was one of the players in a situation where they could not move without putting there king in check, or did the two of you repeat the exact same move three times in a row? Doing either of those things is an automatic draw.

I think you got Draw because the other player wanted to quit the game before it was over, I think thats what happens when you do a Draw on Yahoo Chess
