One of my friends gives blood regularly. It's weird because she's deathly afraid of needles. They have to cover her arm, and everything so that she doesn't see it. She even freaks out when the prick her finger. I asked her why she still gives blood & she says it's sucks but she feels like she has too because she's type O and her blood is always in demand. I don't think she should do it anymore. I mean I understand but she's really, really scared, if they accidently show her the needle she'll start crying! Does anyone else think this is odd?

I don't want to stop her from doing something that she wants to do. I just went with her last time and it scared me, she usually a very controlled person. I just don't like seeing her in pain & she was in pain.

We don't get money for our blood...I didn't even know people could get money for their blood.

Incredible courage in the face of fear and she is giving of herself to help others. i wouldnt doubt that each time she does it, that she becomes more and more accepting of the fact that nothing happens to warrant such fear. so long as its a reputable place that she is donating to, clean, proffesional. i think its great that she gives of herself.

She should continue to give blood. It will make it easier for her when she needs to get blood drawn for medical reason. She will already know what to do and how to handle her fears. I think it is a great thing that she is able to face her fears that way. And she is right, type O blood is always in demand. As long as she is able to give blood, she should do so. A few minutes of her discomfort can save up to 3 lives. I think that's worth it - don't you?

she might just be a really caring person and she'll be in contact with needles her whole life because with physicals they test the blood so maybe it'll help her get over her fear slowly. you shouldnt stop her from doing something that can save another person's life especially if she is so willing to give blood.

Needles scare me also but I give blood becuase I feel like it is a good reason to conquer my fear...I feel good because I helped someone and faced a fear at the same time.

I think it's odd that you don't understand her point of view. She's giving something that there is a huge need for, despite her own fears. I think it's great. It shows that she is not self-absorbed and is a caring person. It may also help her eventually overcome her fear of needles.

I don't think it is weird at all. I think it is a very kind and brave thing. Being that scared and being able to put that fear aside and do it anyway just to help others is awesome. More people should be so dedicated to helping others.
