Humans recognize that our world is too complex to have been formed by chance. Feeling small and inconsequential in the scheme of things is normal, mostly because we are small and inconsequential.
Belief in God gives people a sense of being an integral part of the universe. It gives us the feeling that we understand the structure and direction in which events are moving, and why.
It is certainly true enough that religion has figured into many conflicts and many people have died as a result. If you believe in God, you probably believe in life after death. Without a belief in life after death and a judgment day when evil will receive its justice, then many things are NOT possible. We have about 80 years to live. If we did NOT believe in God, then there is NO reason to refrain from lying, cheating, and stealing as necessary to make our 80 years as comfortable as possible. If people are only an accidental occurrence in this world instead of a creation by God, then why not kill anyone of them that gets in your way. Such is the reasoning of Godless Aethistic Dictators.
You do not have to believe in God, but consider this: If there is a God, then your NOT believing in him will not save you from his wrath. Sorry for the double negatives.

Of course not, because religion is the base of the living and it's a lifestyle, and the human will be lost without religion because it tells what's the right things to do and the right path to go to and it leads to peace .. But the problem is the little differences in some beliefs and in some traditions because most religions lead to adore and believe in god.. but the differences was resluted by the time and the place the message to belive was delivered ...

NO the wars won't stop. Religion at its core is about power. It is another version of government. It fills the role of giving something to believe. Having one's faith and excersizing it is a good thing but an organized religion gets out of hand very quickly and becomes an organized mob. People (in general) would rather believe what a preacher says over the pullpit than think for themselves. They will especially do this if they think it will get them things like immortality or out of their version of hell (both in life and after life).

Yes I think the world would be better off without religion. Religion's just scare tactics to keep people in line. You better be good because god is watching. I think this is all we get and I'm not going to spend this life in worry of an after life. Live for today!

Religion has helped mankind as much as it has hurt. On the flip side of war and guilt lies helping your fellow man, the immorality of killing and stealing which would be bad for society if everyone did it. There's charity. There's peace and sanctuary in times of trouble. Most importantly, there's hope in religion.

You can make a case that religion does more good than harm.

Any religion that has a central doctrine of love and unity can serve as a path back to the Creator.

We need to subtract the errant belief in only one true religion. God doesn't care what you believe, he only cares about how you act.

Radiate the love of the Creator and you will find your way back to him.

Radiate fear, hate and predjudice and you will remain removed from him.

i honestly dont believe the world would be more peaceful without religion. wars will still be fought through greed for power, money, control. look at the people who kill, steal, lie without guilt. they believe that as long as they aren't caught they'll face no consequences for the evils they commit.
if religion is a cause of war because it divides us, there are a million other things that will divide us still even if that boundary is removed.
my religion makes me more aware of what is wrong.

Religion is the scourge of humanity. It's the refuge of weak undereducated minds that can't make sense of the world without the need for a magical sky daddy.

you have a controversial question... but at the same time a good question. i think that there is a possibility that this world would be peaceful if there weren't any religions conflict, however these world is peaceful because there are people that believe in GOD and his beliefs (be nice, love, respect,..........)
these also gives people hope and something to believe in.

Nothing requires you to believe.

There is a revelation. You believe it or you don't.

As regarding to human behavior. On earth, it is man who kills his follow man. Men who claim to follow a certain religious kills for political outcome. If they followed their religion, there would be no hatred and yes the world would be more peaceful.

Subtracting religion would be throwing the baby out with the bath water.
