What is a good camera for someone starting out? I want to make my own movies and documentaries, but I don't want it to look amateur.

How much money do you have? If $700-$1000, get a pv-gs400 off of ebay. $1000-$1500, gl2 off of ebay. Any cameras above this range are overkill for a beginner (I would know, seeing that I am one). As for making them look less amateurish, I think you mean you dont want them looking like home movies. Good cinematography, editing, directing, and acting will make people think you know what you are doing when you made it. Theres a lot more, but these are the basics. Im an aspiring filmmaker as well, and I always like meeting other filmmakers, so feel free to contact me at evilgenius4930@yahoo.com. Hope this helps!
