Most of the methods suggested will cause more harm than good. Remember any kind of abrasive like salt and baking soda will only grind away the enamel along with the stains. Would you sandpaper your car to get rid of the dust? Thats what these abrasives do. Dentist applied/dispensed whitening agents act chemically to remove stains only without physically removing the enamel. They also actually whiten the deeper layers of the teeth. Using any kind of home remedy for whitening will be useless at best and harmful at worst. Go consult a good dentist. Might cost a couple of bucks but its safe and you can actually see results.

Baking soda will only help with the stain that accumulates on the surface of your teeth. Not the stain that is deep inside. Also, baking soda is very abrasive. It can wear down yor enamel. The best thing, go to a professional to whiten your teeth, that deals with the stain with in your dentin, not just the surface.
