I have a jack russell/unk mix 10 months old and an 1/2 american bulldog 1/2 unkown... and they go to bed around 11:00 p.m. and get up about 9:30 AM... then they play rough for an hour, eat, drink... and go back to sleep from like 11 Am to 1 PM... get up and play until about 2:00... sleep until 4... go back to seep about 5:30... play rough until around 7, get a walk, and then lay around and play a little until bedtime. This seems like too much sleeping to me. I have had them since they were both 8 weeks and this has been the pattern forever. I just thought as they got older they slept more... at this rate my dogs will ONLY sleep when they are older. :) Sorry for the long explanation... Just curious how much your dog sleeps?

Hmm. Very young puppies, like 8 to 12 weeks can sleep up to 20 hours a day, but at 10 months, I would think your dogs would be awake more.

Maybe they're bored? Or maybe they play hard enough to wear themselves out. :)

They may not have enough external stimuli. They need yard toys and somebody to get them going. The more energy they use the more they will sleep but it should be more play than sleep, especially the jack russell mix. However, some dogs naturally sleep more.

I wouldn't be too worried about it until they stop eating, drinking, and playing all together. Try to take them outside and play in the yard, if you don't have a yard, try to find a dog park.

Seems perfectly normal to me puppies sleep a lot because they tire very easily you said that they play rough and get a walk those right there are excellent signs that they are getting the rest they need for all that puppy pep just wait until they sleep a few hours before your bedtime and decide to play right as you are getting comfortable in your bed gets frustrating but very, very typical I went through it with my two chihuahuas

Its completly normal. Pups sleep all the time its okaiii for them so dont worry. My pup sleeps 24/7. But when they get older make sure they get lots of exersize. Cause if they don't they'll be a bump on the log. But for now its completly normal. Pups need lots of rest. Like a baby. Hope this helps.

Although i doubt this is it, carbon monoxide causes animals to sleep longer. This is why they used to have canaries in mines. If the canaries fell asleep the miners knew Carbon monoxide was present. You should only worry about this if you have been sleeping more than usual or have been feeling tired. CO is dangerous because you cant smell it or taste it. There are CO meters sold in stores. They are just as comon as smoke detectors. Still puppies are supposed to sleep alot and i doubt they are sleeping to much, but you can never be too safe.

This is normal for young puppies. Once they get older their sleeping habits will change. I've had dogs all my life I'm 52 now and this has always been the norm with my pets.

Dont worry puppies sleep alot. And it sounds like you keep them farely active so they should be just fine. As they get older I am sure that they will stay awake for longer time periods.

Good Luck!

Dogs do sleep a lot, especially puppy's.

The harder they play the harder they sleep. They are OK, don't worry.
