I was present for duty and participated in the unit mission at the time it was awarded. But I PCS'ed and never got any orders from S1. I have the manifest and an unofficial list of operations that were authorized the HSM.

Anyone know? I forgot to ask today before everyone was released.

Take the proof of award authorization and copy of the page in your service record with official record of duty station to the personnel office or equivalent and they will have somebody who can verify that you should have received the medal. They will document it in your record and can authorize you to wear it.

Depends on the unit. Each service puts out a list of 'unit awards' for given dates of service. Your service record will show that you were attached to the unit at said date, therefore are authorized to wear it.

This is a common occurrence in the Navy, where people are transferred after a mission/patrol, and the citation/award comes in later.

The onus is upon you to find that unit awards document for your service (will generally go back to WWII timeframe), once you have confirmed you were onboard at that time, your command has to recognize it.

No!

You should request that you be issued it and the Army to amend your DD214!

Though perhaps not a questioned that you earned it, if it hasn't been awarded to you it is not appropriate to wear it!

If it is a unit medal, any person who is currently in the unit can wear it as long as they are in the Unit!

Get your records changed as 30 years from now you might have a problem!

Many, like me, are eligible for the Republic of Korea Service Medal though you have to request that it be issued!

Happens all the time. Half the guys out there would need to add a row to their rack if they had any idea of what they were eligible for and how to go about applying for them.

you better get some paperwork to back it up, or you won't be authorized to wear it.

If it's not in your records then you can't wear it.
