I have a 10 month old cat, who until a month ago i thought was a female cat, because the vet said she was female and by looking myself i assumed it to. As i said above i have now discovered it is a male by seeing its male genitals, im so confused by this.

Hi there...there are cats who are called hermaphrodites which have both female and male genitalia http://www.messybeast.com/mosaicism2.htm#hermaphrodite , however it's very rare.

Kittens are difficult to distinguish gender for many people.

Here is a photo and illustration which helps identify the gender of kittens:

Same thing happened to me. I rescued a little kitten one day. The first thing I checked was its sex. It was a female. After taking her to the vet, he agreed, gave her her shots and all that good stuff and I took her home. After six months, she was sleeping on her back, legs open and I happened to see more than I did the last time I looked. After an expensive ex-ray, I learned she has female organs inside and testicles outside. It can happen to people, why not cats? She/he's perfectly healthy, just a little confused.

It is quite hard to determine the sex on a kitten. No they don't have both, they are just so small and unlike puppies they both have their genitals in the same space. A very small space and they are are close to the anus. Usually you ask your vet for the sex or just wait a while until they are old enough and you can feel if it has testicals or not. Don't worry everyone (even your vet) has trouble determining the sex.

Well before it took us awhile as well to figure out if it was a boy or a girl, but it turned out being a girl, but we had always questioned. Ask the vet again or go to another one for a second opinion

All creatures can be intergendered, but I think it was just a mistake. To tell the difference in the gender of animals, you have to check if there is 'something' hanging under it(that is not extra fur or really flabby skin) or not.
