Maybe it's not so much that every movie gets two thumbs up, but that the ones who only get one, or none, are embarrassed to advertise it.

"Two thumbs up" is the trademark of Ebert & Roeper. (Formerly Siskel & ebert) Ebert & Roeper are two of the best and most respected film critics in the world. And thier trademark slogan of a good review is knon the world over. So if it is given to any film, it will almost always be put on the film poster, the DVD cover, and anything that has to do with the movie. I find that I agree with them about 85% of the time, so when I see 'Two Thumbs Up', I know that the movie will probably be pretty good. Having this slogan attached to a film is a really good selling point for the film makers.

It started with Siskel and Ebert - they would individually give a thumbs up or down for a movie. Now, I guess, the studios find at least two people who like the movie so they can say it has two thumbs up. By the way, what's this got to do with Spirituality or Religion?

It's a reference to the old "Siskel & Ebert" they were Movie critics with a TV show, each would give thumbs up or down, usually they disagreed, so two thumbs up was kinda rare.
