This is a question based on true story. I recently saw a movie based on true story of Brook Ellison. Brook Ellison is a woman who has been paralyzed from neck down since 11 and have been living on wheelchair every day.
Despite such terrible obstacles, she went on to graduate from Harvard University and become a great , inspirational person who contributes to society.
She is truly one of the most inspirational people I have seen in my life. Her life truly made me move deeply and not take things for granted.
I pose this Q to everyone to hear what you guys think.
How would you live every day if you were paralyzed from neck down since 11? Meaning, you would need help to move, to take shower, to eat, even in bathroom.
There is no right or wrong answer. I just would like to hear candid, honest answer. Thanks in advance for any insights.

Back in the late 70's my cousin was paralyzed from the neck down when he was 17. Yeah, it was hard to adjust. But he did and he lived his life as normally as possible. He dated, he experienced happiness and sadness. Today he is a security officer in Philadelphia--he watches a camera and uses his mouth to push needed buttons. He is a wonderful person and a useful member of society.

Life is whatever you make of it---regardless of the obstacles you have before you. My father has been blind since he was 7 years old, yet he's worked his whole life---even now when he is 73 years old. I am responsible for whatever I decide my life is going to produce. I wouldn't give up. Have you ever heard of Stephen Hawking? He doesn't give up either.

This man is an absolute genius who was diagnosed with a debilitating disease at age 21, has been in a wheelchair for many years, and lost the ability to feed himself in his early 30's.

That depends on whether or not I had a good support system. I think people like that shine when they have other people in their lives that help with more than just taking care of them. So, if I was like that and had someone like my half brother helping me then yes, I would do what ever I could to be the best I could.

As a side note, my half brother spent ten years of his life caring for his mom 24/7. She was a complete invalid and couldn't communicate for about six of those years. I am so, awed by his dedication. He is truly the best person I have ever known.

i guess you just adapt, im am not 6'5" but i can use tools to do some of the things they could without thinking twice, its been my experience though that with the human ability to adapt, there is a balance where a person becomes stronger in places to compensate for areas where they are not strong, great question tho

I have already informed my mother that I do not want to live that way for more than a week. They can operate all they want. But if I can't move my arms and hands beyond that amount of time, I want euthanasia.

I think that the only thing that would keep me going would be hope. God has promised that at the resurrection we will have brand new bodies that will never grow old and they will last for eternity. It all comes down to living for God and believing that he has a purpose for you personally and looking forward to your new body that has been promised to you. I guess you could say you would have to be heavenly minded.

I think this is more of a philosophical question rather than a religious or spiritual question. It would be better addressed in that category instead.

I would just have to go on living, unless I became certain that I was ready to die.

My opinion: I would not want to live at all like that.
