I want to get him something he can do at my house when his parents come for dinner. We don't have a lot of kid toys. He has a 7 year old brother who would want to play too.

Any suggestions for games or toys that I could get?

At 3 NOT Legos (I saw that). They are too small for little hands and could be a serious choking hazzard.

Duplos (larger sized Legos) would be appropriate and a good idea.

An older 3 may also be entertained forever with Matchbox/Hot Wheel cars (mine did).

They are both pretty compact and don't require a lot of accessories or adult help to be fun.

Dinosaurs seem to be a big hit with kids that age. There are some really cool dino toys out there at every price range. Colorforms are back and most kids these days haven't ever played with them. I paid $4 for some Colorforms for Christmas and the kids were practically fighting over them. Crayons and color books are also good choices.

Legos, toy trucks, creating things is fun too. Like puppets made out of bags or something like that. Or, have the mom bring toys that the kids like. That's my best suggestion

Color Wonder paper and markers are easy to store for you and they don't make a mess since the markers and "paints" only show up on the special color wonder paper. (not your floors or furniture). You can find it anywhere from Costco, Toys r Us and even Wal Mart.

Chutes and Ladders or Candy Land board games are good too. Floor puzzles are also good. Cartoon movies are good as well , like the Land Before Time series:

Crayola makes those magic marker sets and paint sets. They are wonderful because the kids love them and they cant make a mess! Its a win win situation for both!!

LEGOS !!!! They will love you forever.

(Hint: Put down a tablecloth or sheet for them to spread the Legos out on, then clean-up will be a lot easier. You just pick up the corners of the cloth and dump them into their bin.)

Legos, Play-Doh, Paint (those magical ones that disappear on the floor, but show up on paper, haha. I forgot the name of it). Anything he can get his hands on and mess with :]
