No, but the seasons are at different times of the year than they are in the northern hemisphere. Summer is the hot season, but it's in December/January/February and winter is in June/July/August.

By definition, summer is the warm season. So it isn't colder in Winter in Australia. In Australia, weather summer occurs in December, January, and February, and winter in June, July, and August, the opposite of what we experience. However, it does not always come out this way. It is nearing midsummer in Sydney, but temperatures are still struggling to get above 70 degrees. It's up near 100 in Perth, though. And during the 2000 Summer (or actually Winter, or maybe early Spring) Olympics, around September 20 or so, near the spring solstice, it got all the way up to 93 degrees and made it hard on the runners. So the seasons define the weather only generally.

Huh?
In the North and South Hemispheres the seasons are just the opposite to each other.
Summer in the north = Winter in the south. And the other way around.
The explanation is : When the sun moves north, it is summer there and the south is cold and has winter; when the sun moves south, the south has summer and the north becomes cold (winter).

No, summer is the hot season, and winter is the cold season, by the definitions of the words. However they have winter, when we have summer, and the other way around.
