yes contacts will work on an astigmatism. If it's not too bad, the doctor can fine tune regular contacts to get you by. You will still see 20/20 this way. If the astigmatism is bad though, you might have to get a different prescription contact for each eye which can be costly. Go in for an exam and while the doctor is playing with his machine where he is fine tuning your vision, ask him about it. He will be able to tell you right then and there what your options are. For the record, contact lenses that are especially for astigmatisms are better to see out of than regular glasses because the fit the actual eye instead of sitting on your nose.

Yes, I have had an astigmatism and been wearing glasses since the second grade, a long time ago. Now they do make contact lenses for astigmatism, (depending on how severe it is) you may only be able to wear gas permable which are hard but are way more comfortable than hard, but not as comfortable as soft.

If you are above 18 look into Lasik surgery, I had it about 7 years ago, and I have not needed glasses or contact lenses since, the proceduce is not bad at all and there have been changes in the procedure in the years that I have had it so I am sure it is even better now.

Well if you can afford to see an optometrist that will measure your astigmatism on each eye and will prescribe you contacts.. buy em.. you'll never regret it.. You will wonder why you didnt do this earlier.. it may be costly though.. save at least three hundred canadian dollars to get a year supply of long wear soft lenses. ask for a good toric contact, these last long if you care for them the right way. Careful though.. sometimes we forget that we are blind..lol
or check with your insurance plan.. maybe you can cost share with your plan or somethin.. Goodluck and enjoy..its the best purchase you can make in a lifetime.. you can also opt for laser eye surgery.. which corrects astigmatism permaneantly. this is very expensive $1000.00 per eye.

I have talked to 3 different opthalmologists and they all say that they won't work. They say that many get them but are not successful in most cases.

I guess the majority can't use them. I decided against even trying them.
