The Mayo Clinic diet can be a good kickstart to weight loss. They use it with morbidly obese patients.

Very overweight people, especially men, seem to like the Atkins diet. Usually because they like eating meat and cheese.

Walking is a good start when you can't do much. So is swimming.

Take it slow with both the exercise and dieting, so it isn't too overwhelming.

There's also gastric by-pass surgery

Hello, I'm a nurse. Your husband has too start off slow. I would recommend what I have told many people, to dance to your favorite song to the radio, it helps a lot. Also he needs to limit his intake and eating the right foods. This is also key. I would also have him see a medical doctor before starting any diet plan and/or weight loss plan. You need the doctor in order to follow the progress and/or warning signs to try something else. I hope this is useful to you. Take care and good luck to you and your husband.

Have you heard of medifast? It's the only diet that has been scientifically proved, and it's from Mayo Clinic. They also have a special version for diabetic people.
