While your puppy is growing, you will need to adjust his food regularly. Check the bag, it will tell you how much you should be feeding him each day for his current his body weight. I only recommend using the bag guidelines for puppies-for adults its WAY too much food!
You should divide this into 3 meals until he is about 6-8 months old, then go to the adult schedule of twice a day feedings. Feeding adults once a day can cause some problems in itself, so to play it safe twice a day is recommended (why chance it).
I wouldn't worry about him getting too fat at 3 months old, but if he is still a little piggy at 5-6 months you may need to decrease the amount. Your vet should be able to tell you if he's getting too chubby.
Once he has reached his (ideal) adult weight, a good rule of thumb in 1 cup per every 20 pounds of (ideal) weight per day to maintain weight.
Example: 60 pound dog gets 1.5 cups twice a day.
You may have to adjust this up or down depending on your dogs metabolism.

Every dog is an individual and you should pay attention to the response and condition of your dog. You should also consider specific needs based on your puppy’s breed, metabolism, temperament, levels of exercise he is getting and growth stage. While he is growing he can eat three or four times a day.

While he is growing as fast as he is you will need to adjust his feed accordingly. Check the bag, it will tell you how much you should be feeding him per his body weight. I usually feed my pups 2 times a day until they are around 1 year old. Then I back it off to evening feedings only for adult dogs.

You just need to look on the back of the bag or online if you no longer have a bag available. He should be on a large breed puppy food. Also, do not exercise him after he eats, it can cause bloat which could kill him (or at least give you a huge vet bill).

I agree to check the bag and follow the suggestions based on the breed, weight and age. I'd advise you NOT keep feeding him until he stops eating. Many dogs scarf their meal quickly and my dog will eat a 10lb bag of food if I allowed it. Many dogs simply eat when they are not hungry or out of boredom. This causes weight problems. It is important to guage your puppies diet now.

ok I know for a fact on the back of the bag of Iams there is a feeding chart as to how much food you should feed your dog, I have worked in many shelters and boarding places to know this. 2 cups twice a dog for an active dog is not to much, an inactive dog they would put on weight.... so you can check it out. good luck

3 cups a day is too much.. If your pup is that hungry I would be thinking he might have worms, especially tape worms. So best thing to do is take the pup to your vet along with a fresh stool sample and have him checked out. You can also discuss with your vet how much you should be feeding him
