Nothing is wrong with your cat he is behaving completely normal especially if he is un-neutered. If you neuter your cat his sex hormones will no longer exist and this will reduce is want to wander. When he is gone for days at a time he is looking for a female, it's normal. Un-neutered cats also fight more often which can lead to abscesses that can go unnoticed until it is too late. Once neutered the roaming and fighting and extreme need to constantly be outside will decrease. Not to mention the MANY unwanted kittens! If your cat is neutered it is possible that your cat enjoys being outdoors better. Adjustment to indoor life is possible but his bad behavior indoors will increase before it gets better. If you choose to keep him indoors expect him to become unruly before he gets better. Also if he is not neutered and you choose to keep him indoors he will begin to spray urine in your house. An indoor neutered cat will live 8 to 10 years longer than an outdoor cat. I'm glad you are looking for help have not chosen to disregard his behavior, thousands of people do everyday.

Keep him inside permanently. You are very lucky that he came back at all.

The HSUS has some great advice on how to make this transition easier and it includes lots of play time and attention for the cat. It's safer and more responsible to allow him to live out the rest of his life in the safety of your home. Good luck to you both.

obviously there is a female in heat somewhere in about a half mile radious. your male is at that age ! The best thing to do is to have him neutered. That will calm his urge down somewhat and he's not as prone to disappear for a day or two!

your boy cat has discovered he is male. he now has girl cat friends. So either get him neutered (which would be my solution) or let him out. He will spray in the house if you don't and you will not like this. If you neuter him don't let him out anymore cats can and will get sick and hurt from being outside.

He most likely had a fight with another male cat...maybe for the affection of a female cat. If you allow him to go outdoors expect this to happen. There is nothing wrong...it's called a cats life.

Some male cats behave like that once they discover a female cat in heat. Also males (toms) like to fight even though they get dirty and hurt. All cats like to hunt, explore and investigate things.

Sounds like he found a little girl kitty he likes. Once a cat gets access to the great outdoors it is almost impossible to make them into house cats again.

Let Him out.
He wants some kitty action.

My first cat "Spike" would dissappear for days and sometimes a week. But he always came home in the morning are sometime super late at night and would pound on my window for me to get up and let him inside.

Cats are free souls that can't be trapped in a house.

Your boy cat went tom catting around and found a g/f. Now he wants to visit her again and again for as often as he can. Have him neutered. This will solve yours and his problem.
