One of my best friends is alergic to alcohol - which can be really difficult when eating - a lot of food has a 'wine' sauce! I can take or leave alcohol. Was a cow as a teen - out drinking as soon as I looked 18 (I was 14!), by the time I left Uni I'd got over the need to drink for the hell of it. I enjoy a glass of something with a meal at home as much as the next person, but when out and about prefer to know how the hell I'm geting home, so as nominated driver 99% of the time, I'm tee-total when out!

I've just had two beers, however I have had far less this week than most, including a few days totally clear. Its like coming out of a fog, but its still so tempting to have a beer, and its not even all that good its just liquid/ a ritual. It clouds the mind.

Yep!

Not too happy with being tee-total, but I have no choice since I'm on meds that don't allow it. Shame, I was partial to the odd drink. Not that I ever drunk to get drunk, but the odd one to loosen the inhibitions helped.

Because I know from being a teen drinker, (13-17 years) booze makes me depressed and hopeless. I would spiral out of control, and I truly don't miss it. I also drive every day, and have never had an accident. I'd never want to have one, hurt someone and wonder, was the booze to blame?
Simlarly, I don't smoke or take drugs. I know that for the 'comfort' these things give you, the price is they lead to misery and death.

No, I like an occasional drink.
But I would be tee-total if it became a problem in any way. And I know lots of people who should be!!

Absolutely - best thing I ever did. 8 years ago I knocked it on the head - I lost weight, got a clear head and never looked back! I don't even like the smell of it now, and am never tempted.

My lovely mum even made the christmas trifle without booze this year - just for me and it was FAB.

i drink about once or twice a year, does that count? My reason is i dont like the taste of it, i can even smell it, which is why i also prefer to wear perfume rather than cologne cos there's less alcohol in it, which I can smell more than the scent!

When I do have a dram, and a dram it is, it's usually single malt. Smell of beer makes me want to throw up.

if you are talking about abstaining from the use of alcohol and any other drugs or narcotics, the reasons are intemperance, it just is not good sense to use these items, after long years of use, they have a detrimental effect, and in severe cases cause all the malidies that humans want to avoid, blindness, tremors, baldness, brain diseases and drinking causes all around problems, being someplace where one does not have to be,like it is such a waste of time, to have to go and get a suit case

Packed the booze up 6 years ago - health reasons

Drinking to much, had stroke, in hospital for 4 months, now I stagger without touching a drop, don't like the smell of it , would never go back to it, don't miss it.
