My good Sir,
To paraphrase a line from Full Metal Jacket "Rifles are for killing and guns are for fun."

I assume that you are asking what is the best rifle in the British Army. This is like asking what is boat in the navy. It depends on what you want to use it for. Is it a squad automatic wepon, a sniper rifle or just a general purpose fool proof infantry man's rifle?

A gun is a projectile weapon with a smooth-bore barrel. Lol.
Anyway. I would have to say the best all-rounder is the SA80 A2 equipped with the UGL (Under slung Grenade Launcher). Despite gas parts problems, the weapon is very accurate and reliable.
All the firearms in service in the British Army are probably the best in their respective class (machine gun, sniper rifle etc.).
The most important thing to remember, in my opinion, is that a British soldier is effective and deadly with whatever weapon he/she is issued, due to the superior training and professionalism of the British Army.

The british army got rid of the best weapon they had, when they ditched the Lee-enfield .303. It was accurate at just over a 1,000 yards, and held 5 rounds in a clip. It was the rifle that all snipers used because of it's accuracy.Very powerful eeapon.
