Individuals of any age may be required to file income tax returns.

Whether a return is required depends on age, the amount and type of income, marital status, and whether the individual is a dependent of another taxpayer or not.

If there is a LOCAL income tax in your area, you MAY be required to file a tax return even if you have no income. This would only provide the local tax authority with information. It would not result in a payment/refund. For Federal and most States, filing requirements are based on income, not age.

Anytime you have a job and they pay you and take taxes out, you will normally have to file a tax return, if for nothing else but to get the taxes they took out refunded back to you. Depends on what you put on your W-4 form and how much you make if they take Fed Taxes out. You will always get SS and Medicare taken out.

You can receive an income tax refund only if you paid taxes.
If you were not hired as an employee (did not complete W4) then you won't get anything back.
If you were paid in cash, keep it quiet. :)
