Iceberg Lettuce question?

If I remove the core from a head of iceberg lettuce will it stay fresher longer, or is this an old wives tale?

I find it to be true.

I find that it does, also if you pull it apart and put it into a bowl with a lid to cover it.It will last a lot longer.

It does last longer and is easier to use and store that way. Just don't use a knife to cut off of it, it makes it turn brown.
