My friend wants me to dye her hair, which is no problem because I usually dye my own, anyway. I've developed quite the talent for it. However, she wants me to do that thing where the under side of her hair is a different color than the rest of her hair. I'm not quite sure how to do that. Suggestions?

Eek... I'd recommend you refer your friend to a professional. They are much better at that kind of thing. But here's what I would do. (Please take my answer with a grain of salt, as I'm not a professional and have never tried this). Separate the two sections of hair evenly. Secure them into place with a clip. Now, you're going to want to do the darker color first, because it won't matter quite as much if some of the lighter colored dye accidentally gets onto the darker color. If the darker color accidentally gets onto the lighter one, that could be a problem. Cover the part of the hair that you aren't currently dying with a plastic covering of some kind, maybe a hair cap. Proceed as usual dying the non-covered part, but be sure to rinse it yourself (don't have her do it, or the dye might run into the other section). At this point, you can either let it dry before going onto the next section, or you can simply cover the just-dyed section and start dying the other section. Bottom line, I think you should do them separately. Preferably in two sittings. But I don't know anything about this, so again, take it with a grain of salt.

You can easily just have her split her hair the way she likes (half ponytail) and dye the bottom half whatever color she wants and then do the top afterwards. Good luck

Lots of hair clips. Pin the hair out of the way that you don't want to dye.
