when my doxen, ziggy, was a puppy, he could ride in cars perfectly fine. but now that he is growing up a bit, he constantly drools in the car, and has puked. should i simply give him some kindof medicine? if so, what kind? or should i take him in the car more often to cure him of this? will he grow out of it?

you have almost answered your own question first yes do it more often and shorter trips, second don't feed or let him drink before he goes for a ride, third and most important roll down window.. the dog may be over heated, we may think it is just right but dogs get over heated very quickly when they get excited and a ride is like a new toy excitement new smells. have a good time on your next trip....enjoy

Some dogs do grow out of it. The only puppy I had who got car sick got over it quite quickly by taking him for very short rides, giving him a bit of a walk, then back into the car for a ride home. He associated the car with pleasant trips. It also helps a lot of dogs if they can see out the window.

For those dogs who are too nervous, you can try Bach's Flower Essences, Rescue Remedy. It's like a mild tranquilizer with no side affects, takes about 20 minutes to work and is enough to calm them. I use it for my dog who's afraid of thunder. He's 70 lbs. and gets 4 drops - your dog would likely be good with 1 - 2.
You can get it at some drug stores, health stores or holistic vets.

My dog also used to puke and drool in the car. I found two things that helped. I took her for a ride in the car before she ate so her stomach would be empty. I drove as smoothly as possible.

I raise Great Danes, and always give the puppies a couple of gingersnap cookies before they go home with their new owner. So far, so good.
