One year, during the winter, our big chest freezer full of meat died. We didn't notice until everything had already thawn out and started to go bad. Living in a rural area, we figured it would be alright if we just threw the freezer out back and dealt with it later. After all, it was winter and everything would just freeze anyway. Two scorching summers and a roll of duct tape later, the freezer filled with rotting meat was still in our back yard. Eventually we had to get rid of it, as we wanted to move. We carefully loaded it onto the back of the moving truck, gagging all of the way. We drove to the dump, and my brothers got out of the truck with me to shove it off of the back. The smell that escaped when it hit the ground and split open was imaginably worse than that of a thousand rotting corpses. Even worse, when it hit, my brothers jumped back in the truck, leaving me to lock the doors shut. Reaching the entrance of the dump, we realized that you could already smell it there over all of the garbage. We booked it before anyone could blame it on us.

I still don't know what all contributed to the smell, but I think it was a combination of pet urine, cigarette smoke, and fresh poo.

I smelled it in a house I was previewing for a client (I am a Realtor). I had to take pictures of the house for my client, and the smell was so awful, so I ran thru the house snapping my pictures and was done in about 2 minutes (the seller was home!!!), and it wasn't until I was uploading the pictures from my digital camera that I realized the kitchen cabinets were painted red!

Might not be as horrible as some of the other things people come up with, but I hope it's good for a laugh, because everyone at my office certainly had a good one about it!

the worst smell that I have ever smelled is raw chicken that we bought from the grocery store but forgot in the trunk of the car over the weekend. We went to sit in the car and there was a putrid smell and we open the trunk and there was the ghastly smell. You could smell that stench from across the street and it took over a month to get the smell totally out of the car. Because of the smell I became a vegetarian and its been a year. It ties with the smell of a dead rat in the rat trap that has been there for a month because we were out of town during the summer. That also contributed to my veggie only diet.

The inner contents of a cow's stomach. When I moved into a new place the old owners left their cow there until the butcher could come the following week. The old owners boys decided that they wanted to look inside the stomach and the butcher sliced it open. I thought I would die and the smell lingered for days. I dount that anything weill ever top that unless I smell rotting or burning flesh.

urgh... one time me and my friend were walking home and there was this black bag open full of disgusting looking stuff, and we almost died from the smell, it smelt like a dead person (not that I know what that smells like lol) but i bet there was something dead in the bag, it was the WORST smell in the world! I would've rather had someone do a crap on my face at that moment (that's how bad the smell was). Urgh it was disgusting!

Hm... it's a tough call.
I cleaned out a refrigerator that had been sitting broken with food in it for about a month.
There was also the smell of the section that sold animals in the Mercado Sonora in Mexico City.

Wow... I think I am Batman should get the best answer.

The smell of multiple dead things, I once was exposed to the smell of a slaugher house on the way to visit friends.
It was even worse than my sister in law's brother after no washing for six months. I had to roll the window down in my car, in 30 degree weather for that one.
[Chucking up if I keep thinking about that one!]
