Is this a spiritual question.. ??? Since this tank has been tested and found to be over 20 billion years old, we know that it is evolving into a larger tank hence it will obviously hold much more water that it says on the side. It needs to be carbon dated to find out the exact amount of gallons. Once we get to this level, we can test the DNA of the tank and maybe clone another like it, this will help us to better understand the tank..

Now, are we talking fish tank or water jug tank or gasoline tank, etc?

Fish tank: Subtract the fish, rocks, toys, etc from 20 gallons. Whatever is left is how much water it can hold. Side note... you are not supposed to fill a fish tank to the very top, so you have to consider that too.

Water Jug: If it's the cheap kind - only 19 gallons. They just want you to think it's 20 but are cheating you a gallon.

Gas tank: None. Don't put water in a gas tank. Your car thanks you.
