i heard alot of bad stories about wolf mix but most of them are people who never handled or even seen one so don't believe them.i personally think that they are just like every other dog out there. your dog maybe hyper,a little naughty, reckless, shy, aggressive, or whatever but what the heck, its its personality which you can also find in every dog pure bred or mutt.so don't get rid of your dog just because you heard someone say that they are dangerous or whatever, they just envy you cuz you have the coolest dog.so love your dog like every other dog you had(if you had other dogs) and be happy and i wish you and your new dog good health

While he is just a puppy, wolf hybrids can be very dangerous as adults. Anyhow Also keep in the mind that it is illegal in many states to own a wolf hybrid, so I would highly recommend checking the legislation regaring ownership.

The reason that they can be dangerous is that these, like the more primitive purebred dogs, is a wild animal. They tend to be very unpredictable as adults and are incredible territorial. They are pack animals and tend to view those not in their pack as a threat; this can be a problem when people come into your house or on your property- especially someone that you may know well, but they do not.
They also have very high exercise needs and part of keeping them content is ensuring that they get lots of energy.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these are animals with very high prey drive. This means small pets, young children etc are often viewed as prey and as such they are likely to chase and possibly harm them.
Also, bringing them to the vets is generally problematic

People tend to think that mixing a wolf and a domestic dog will end up in a blend of both worlds and make a fantastic pet. It takes generations to breed a consistent temperment. Hybrids really should only be owned by those with extensive backgrounds in dog training and those with the time to provide the necessary energy. It's not to say he won't be sweet with you, it's a matter of other people. Also, make sure he considers you alpha (dominant). If you are not the alpha in the pack, you may have major problems.

Potentially, YES. Wolf hybrids are not wolves and are not dogs. There are hybrids out there who get the best of the mix and have very friendly and very dog-like temperaments. Problem is, you don't know if this is what you have until the dog is several years old. The flip side is that you can have an animal who has the distrust of humans with the lowered fear of humans resulting in a dog that doesn't like people AND isn't afraid to bite them.

There are plenty of stories out there of hybrids that have done just fine, but a significant number of hybrids do not do well once they hit adolescence and very sadly, end up trapped between two worlds of dog and wolf, truly belonging to neither.

Since you already have this puppy, I strongly suggest that you do lots of research NOW and make sure that you train and socialize this pup like crazy. His life could depend on it.

Many " wolf hybrids" are truthfully basically domesticated canines breed crosses- German shepherd mixes and different Wolfy looking canines. human beings then sell them as " wolf hybrids" for $$$$$. i've got considered it achieved. Wolves should be interior the wild- they are not pets. It takes generations to truly "cultivate" a wolf. they'd look friendly and tame yet they are not- they're wild animals. i've got examine that in the process an editorial someplace some weeks in the past. yet sure i've got heard memories of vicious "wolf hybrids". i've got been around a real one- there became easily documented evidence and that they weren't vicious yet they weren't pets the two. They have been in a wolf secure haven- community animal look after would not take them. the sorrowful area became they have been basically the three of them, they could not get launched into the wolf %. there- didn't want any canines bred into the organic wolf %...the three have been fastened and saved jointly in a small enclosure. Their "vendors" could not take care of them and it became truthfully unlawful to own a wolf hybrid of their state,so the secure haven stepped in( not of a similar state). I do hate while human beings say bully breeds are vicious. not all are. it is not all approximately how the canines are raised and dealt with. undesirable breeders- and sure i assume there are lower back backyard breeders that attempt to reproduce wolf crosses..and bring undesirable temperamental ones that upload to the undesirable "rep' of the bypass. it somewhat is area of their fault that bully breeds and different "risky" breeds have a bad rep.

They are a wild dog. Just because there is some dog mixed in doesn't mean they are going to be tame and docile. I would much rather meet up with a gang of pitbulls than one lone wolf hybrid. In many states it is against the law to own one of these wolf mixes so better check with your town/county to see if any restrictions apply. It is crazy to me that a lot of breeds are banned, and people are allowed to breed these wolf hybrids. I am not a pit owner nor would I ever own one, but to me it is crazy to think a pit bull is a murderouys dog and a wolf hybrid would not be.

First, please take it to a vet to be positive that it's a wolf-dog, do not go on what someone told you. Second, it depends on how much wolf blood it has. Was it's parent a full-blooded wolf, the grandparent? It will act like a normal puppy until about two years old. This is when a wolf-dog will mature and decide to challenge it's owner for dominance. A wolf-dog has the mannerism and openess of a dog, but predatory instincts and strength as a wolf. It may one day treat other animals and kids as prey. There are wildlife habitats that will take wolf-dogs in and turn them loose into the wild. Please see a vet for confirmation, or contact one of these facilities before the pup becomes too dependant upon you.

are u sure that it is legal in your state to own a hybrid????????
I owned one and he was wolf/malamute. He was the sweetest loyal dog there was, but i also had another that was very protective, but the sweet one i had was socialized very well with other animals and humans continuously, but the other was given to me as an adult and never socialized so it was very protective of me and a one owner dog.
something i learned is they have to be socialized socialized socialized with humans and other animals. This still does not mean they cannot be vicious, but dogs are the same way they can be mean and they can be the sweetest.

You are going to get people that swear they are dangerous and some that swear they aren't. They've gotten the bad rap that the pit bulls, shepherds, and rotts have gotten over the years.
I know several people that have had them, raised them as they would any other larger breed of dog, and they have made wonderful pets. The key was that they trained them. I don't think you have to be any more firm with a hybrid as you do any other dog, as long as they KNOW that you are the alpha.

Good Luck

For Goodness sake.

Mountain lion cubs are cuddly and playful. Then they grow up into dangerous wild predators.

Kodiak Bear cubs look like harmless teddy bears. Then they grow up into dangerous wild predators.

Wolf cubs (even hybrid) ones look and act like cute puppies. Then they grow up.

Even large breeds of domestic dogs are capable of attacking and injuring or killing people, especially children. Add full strength "wild" animal Hunting, killing and eating instincts and you have a recipe for a random, spontaneous attack.

Most people who owned animals that "went wild" and chewed up someone's kid swore to the animal's gentleness and playful nature and try to blame the victim for "provoking" the attack.

Your wolf cub MAY never hurt anyone. I still wouldn't play those odds.

NO they are not dangerous. I know several people who have them. Since they are a wild breed they might test you because they want to be the Alpha leader. You just have to show them who is boss and don't be gentle about it. They are very smart, good protectors and make great pets. They get about the same size as a German Shepherd, some a little smaller. Just make sure you train the animal. They are really cool, the ones I know howl at the police sirens.
