Although the media will defend CBS because the story is news worthy and a cover up, they all need to accept the tragedies that followed. People died and were injured during the followup to that story and it is CBS that is squarely to blame. Should something be done? I think, yes! I can't think of any legal precedent that has been violated, but I do believe they are responsible for the suffering that followed.
My instincts as a former Marine would say, this needs to be avenged, yet the dumb @ss laws in the US would fall on the side of the media. To incite retaliation for this action, would not bode well for those seeking to retaliate, so for now and until someone comes up with a solution, it is best left unresolved.

The press only has one job - to report the news. The fact that our constitution guarantees freedom of the press is a great thing. What more and how far would nixon have gone if the press had not reported it. More recently several politicians resigned in disgrace and some are headed to prison as a result of media attention. The press is America's watchdog keeping us safe. Bush denied, denied, and denied that there were any wrong doings in Abugreb until the photos hit. Plus It was not the media that took the photos or released them it was the soldiers who knew the truth -- the press had no access to the prison.

It's treasonous. Many in media are at fault. They all tow the liberal line of the left. Their hatred of our President overrules winning a war. They have been the cause of fueling the violence in Iraq specifically. This is "Bush's War" and anything they can do to lose this war, even while our troops are dying, is obviously worth it to them. Every classified leak is linked to the traitors. There is so much good going on in Iraq that goes unreported by the antique media, Thank God for the new media or we would all be brainwashed. You have to shop for the truth. Libs get by with it because they can. But more truth and patriotism in an expanding new media can beat them at the polls. We need an energizing revival of the patriotic conservatives in new media to lead the march. We can beat them at their own game. During the Vietnam war we had no other voice than the liberal Walter Cronkite.

Your analysis is flawed. The situation in Iraq was not caused by the Abu Gharaib scandal. Attacks were increasing, and casualties were rising before it occured, and did not accelerate appreciably after the pictures were aired. So, even if CBS is irresponsible and unpatriotic, which is a seperate debateable point, your question is moot since their actions were not the trigger nor the fuel for the insurgency.

CBS NEWS HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF TRYING TO DISCREDIT THE WAR IN GENERAL AND THE PRESIDENT IN PARTICULAR. THAT'S WHY DAN RATHER IS ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN. HE GOT CAUGHT GOING AFTER THE PRESIDENT WITH FALSE, DISTORTED, INACCURATE, DEFAMITORY, UNCORRABORATED INFORMATION AND THEN HAD TO ADMIT A BIG BIG MISTAKE. MAINSTREAM NEWS ORGANIZATIONS HAVE VERY LITTLE ETHICS WHEN IT COMES TO PUBLISHING ANYTHING CLOSE TO SUPPORTIVE OF OUR EFFORTS AND ARE CONSTANTLY DIGGING TO "CATCH" SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. THEY MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO CONTACT AND SPEAK WITH THE ENEMY TO GET THEIR TAKE AND ALL THINGS RELATED TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE WAR AND WHEN STATEMENTS ARE MADE BY THESE THUGS THEY ARE ONLY TOO HAPPY TO AIR THEM WITHOUT CORROBORATION---SOMETHING THEY WOULD NEVER DO WITH OUR OFFICIALS. AS FAR AS THE PRISON SCANDAL IS CONCERNED, THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED THE MILITARY AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THEIR FINDINGS AND WAITED TO SEE SOME TYPE OF DISCIPLINARY AND/OR CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN BEFORE PUBLISHING THESE INFLAMITORY PHOTOS AND COMMENTS. IT MADE A DIFFICULT SITUATION WORSE AND CONTRIBUTED TO WHO KNOWS HOW MANY ADDITIONAL CASUALITIES ON BOTH SIDES. REMEMBER TET68 IN VIETNAM?? THE NEWS MEDIA CALLED IT A VICTORY FOR THE VC BUT IT WAS, IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS, A DISASTER OF THE ENEMY. THEY LOST 30,000 FIGHTERS AND WERE NO BETTER OFF THEN BEFORE THE FIGHT. BUT THE MEDIA COVERAGE LED TO CRIPPLING OF THE WAR EFFORT.

they had a chance to embarrass the President and took it at all costs. The fault lies with the solders, but the liberal media and the liberal politicians have blood all over there hands.
