I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

Talking about free then go for AVG by grisoft.

You get these features for free:
+Easy to install and use
+Real-time antivirus protection of files and e-mails
+Maximum security — recent certifications include VB100%, ICSA, and West Coast Labs Checkmark
+Regular and automatic database and program updates
Windows and Linux
+And most of all ... great customer satisfaction!

You certainly dont get everything for free so some few limitations but its still the best when it comes to free.

Avast is the best i know. AVG wasn't to bad although its no longer going to be free soon I'm told.

Avast comes highly recommended by a friend of mine who runs a computer business. Its free three is a pro version you pay for but the free version is just fine.

its safe so don't worry :) Ive used it for months now with no problems

the suitable 3 loose AV courses are Avast, Avira, and AVG (depending upon the end results of diverse self sufficient sorting out labs). i latterly reviewed the rankings of various self sufficient sorting out labs and placed that Kaspersky and BitDefender are both suitable paid AV courses with those 2 swapping lower to and fro contained in the suitable 2 slots on the diverse sorting out labs. it truly is now to not say that they were significantly extra effective than some others, like Norton's. typically, the suitable names are all interior of two or 3 percentage factors contained in the sorting out consequences.
