Okay, quite a mouthful. You sound educated. But why have you not noticed that most of the people on here are giving these 'one line' answers because they simply do not want, or expect a logical answer. Instead they all seem to expect war. They often argue or fight. They bait one another, and they antagonise and lie in wait to pick and bite at those who really do want truth.
These haven't given themselves over to religious or any other kinds of leader. They have given themselves over to strife, mischief, arrogance and ego. To viciousness and spitefulness.
Those are their gods and those are their names.
Not everyone is like that. There are many who are not. (And you sound like one who is not).
But there are the one liners who are.

Yes. I agree, mostly.
However, your statement is slightly overgeneralized in that some answers found here are quite legitimate and very reasonable with a lot of proof found on the web or elsewhere. Yes, such fabulous answers may be hard to come by, but then again, there are so many ridiculous questions on here that some just require a ridiculous answer.
Most questions asked on this forum are not legitimate, unique, and well-written questions. Therefore, how can you expect a legitimate, unigue, well-written, supported answer? You can't.
If more people would realize that Yahoo! Answers is not a place to comment on other religious preferences/beliefs, but a place to LEARN and gain knowledge in the ways of other people, and that answerers are expected to give answers which help people learn and gain that knowledge, Yahoo! Answers would be a more rewarding site for all.

I don't know if it has as much to do with folks' lack of knowledge as it does with their lack of patience. We are such an impatient people that many consider it too time-consuming to write more than a line or two. I personally don't think so, as you may've noticed. We are constantly bombarded with ideas and phrases such as "faster is better" and "why wait" and "have it NOW" and many others. All are designed (surprise!) to sell us something. They really couldn't make something better, so they just made it faster, and then sold us on the idea that faster IS better. Not all cultures agree with that. I had to step outside my own culture to realize what a pack of nonsense I'd bought into so unwittingly. Not everyone has this privilege, but I'm very glad I did.
Some folks' brevity really does seem to come from ignorance and/or apathy. Others simply don't want to take time to exercise the knowledge they really do have. I do wonder what good it then does them, sometimes, but they are really just unwitting products of their culture.

I would say that answers in YA don't really have any affect whatsoever on the world's eco/political/religious status. However, I will agree that there are a lot of people who 'follow' the crowd instead of doing their own research. For example, Ted Kennedy is almost always automatically re-elected into office - even though he has poor morals, makes unsound decisions (remember Chappaquiddick anyone), and has his own agenda. I would not say, though, that in America anyone has absolute power. We have a system of checks and balances that, while not perfect, works fairly well. I would agree that apathy will be the downfall of our country.

You must be 18 years old, because only someone that young thinks in absolutes. I suggest you travel around the world, live in various countries and really try to understand what is going on. You know, how life isn't fair, and if you have the free time to make such crass judgements of people, then you really do need to take a look at yourself. There is a truth that says that what you see in other people, you also see in yourself. Good luck!

Well said. I see this applying mainly to religious people, since all they have to back up their belief is faith and a book that is mostly false and made up. For those of us not religious, it is difficult to back up our claims because the answer is much more difficult than just "God did it" or "The Lord works in mysterious ways" or "Just pray and have faith." Those are weak answers that that have no substance behind them. Whereas atheists like myself have THOUSANDS of books behind us that back up what we believe in. We simply cannot cover that much information sitting here on Yahoo Answers, and I doubt religious people would bother reading it anyway.
What really scares me is how much power people give not only to government, but also their religion. A majority of religious people simply give themselves over to their beliefs without even questioning it! THAT scares the hell out of me. People who do that are giving away their minds and lives to something that cannot even be proven.
It also scares me that religious people refuse to open their minds to other possibilities. At a young age they were told to believe...and they said "Okay!" And now they are stuck in those beliefs and never yield. We atheists, however, constantly adjust out beliefs to new, updated findings in the world of science. religious people are incapable of doing that. They gave all their power to an unknown and can't adjust it, to do so would mean to question their own beliefs.

I love:
"Because I know it's true"
"I have faith"
"The bible says so"
Does evidence really matter, people are so stuck in their ways that some people think some magical force created mankind, flooded the earth, help people win a war without one casuality, split a sea and a river, then gave us his son through a virgin birth, who then proceded to raise the dead, turn water into wine, mulitply bread, and resurrect himself.
All this with no evidence, but one 2000 year old book, and another 5000+ year old book.
Plus statistic can be used to prove anything, 40% of people know that.

Your statement is valid. As a Christian, it disturbs me also that many fellow Christians have not "done their homework". This is how false prophets come to power. I think many Christians should spend more time studying the Bible....but don't just stop there. Take notes at church, make sure that whatever your minister says is biblically correct. If you have questions, ask for clarification. Keep asking, until you are satisfied that your question has been answered. Most of all, pray for guidance and discernment.

That's a lot of words to get people to challenge authority. Personally, I think people want to believe in something so they believe what they are taught. Usually, if you select the right words in Answers you'll inspire the right responses. Maybe you need to splurge on some of your own questions to find the answers that you're seeking.

Having an opinion is easy, even more expressing it, backing it up with facts is not necessary just as high politicians and priests do. The Man and The church are the only ones who gain cash out of the ignorance of the people...
