I've never heard of substituting applesauce for eggs. I have heard of doing it with the oil in a recipe and I've done that. You just substitute the amount of oil with the same amount of applesauce. Eggs are kind of important for a recipe and I can't imagine it would turn out the same without them.

Yes. I am a preschool teacher and one of my kids was allergic to eggs; we baked in the classroom all the time, so I had to do my research.

Use 1/4 cup applesauce PLUS 1/2 tsp. baking powder to sub for an egg.

You can also use 1/2 cup mashed banana plus 1/2 tsp. baking powder.

Or 1/2 tsp. baking powder plus 2 TBSP water.

Additionally, you can purchase a powdered egg substitute at most large grocery stores. The product is called Egg ReplacR and it works really, really well in baking. It's vegan, too.

Personally, I liked the egg substitute powder best, water and baking powder second and the applesauce least of all--unless you're making an apple cake.

Yes, it can substitute. Use a measuring cup to see how much the eggs measure. about 1/4 cup to one egg.

for 2 eggs, use 1/2 cup applesauce. etc.

Applesauce is usually not a substitute for eggs, but rather, oil, in a recipe. You need the eggs to hold it all together and make it bake right.

I've always heard of using applesauce in place of vegetable oil.. It's supposed to make your cookies/cakes moist.

Oh, and healthier, too. Or something like that.
