what do i do when my maltese puppy has diaria?

This is a question for my friend. But, the puppy is very very young and he just got sick.

First of all, depending on the age and the severity, you may want to see your veterinarian. Make sure your friend brings in a fresh stool sample so they can check for parasites- certain parasites can cause diarrhea, for instance giardia.

Secondly, make sure the puppy is getting plenty of water and is put on a bland diet (i.e. white rice and boiled hamburg/chicken; make sure the grease is drained). The bland diet will hopefully help the problem, but if it goes on without improvement for 12-24 hours (again, this is depending hte age) OR the puppy starts vomiting OR the puppy gets worse, seek medical attention immediately.

If the puppy is sick and treated by a Vet and is experiencing diarrhea, one thing you can give it is Pumpkin Pie Filling which comes, unspiced, in a can. You can feed the puppy a few spoonfuls every few hrs.
Run this by your Vet. I first heard of using Pumpkin Pie Filling from my Vet. If your friend's dog has a virus or other illness he may need other medication from the Vet.

I give my dog pepto bismo all the time and when she was a puppy I gave her pepto bismo.I have a rotty.When she weigh about 8 lbs I gave here a teaspoonful.That was plenty.If he does this tell him not to be alarmed when it poops black,its from the pepto.

You should call your veterinarian. A puppy, especially such a small one, can become dehydrated quickly. If the diarrhea is bloody, they should check for parvo, which is a very serious disease.
