My friend will be coming over daily to hang out w/ her, feed her, etc. but I am afraid she (my cat) will get stressed out and anxious (she is very attached). Is there anything I can do for her?
Serious replies only.

Explain to her what is going on (yes they do understand what we say), tell her why you are going away and that your friend will be there for her. Bring her back a special treat or toy because no matter what, she is going to hold a grudge for a few days! If there is any kind of music that you usually listen to, leave it on for her. and once you get back give her some extra attention and play time! Have a good trip.

I don't know if this will work, but it has for two of my three cats. PetSmart sells a DVD called Cat Sitter and it's a great tool! Both Cupid and Vixen love watching it and will sit there for almost an hour watching squirrels, chipmunks, birds and fish on the TV screen just like a kid watching a Saturday morning cartoon. It costs about $10 and is very worth the try. It's on a continuous loop so have your friend come over and pop it in for a while and just let it go :)

Well, what I did was ......I placed tons of cat food in bowls all over the house and lots of water as well. I also placed a lot of cat portable liter boxes all over the house so that when I returned home I could just simply throw the liter boxes out. It worked and the wonderful thing is, my cat did not have to go into an animal hotel while we were gone so that he did not have to be traumitzed while we were gone on vacation.

Talk to your cat before you leave - tell her that you will only be gone a short time and that you love her very much (on the animal planet there was this program called the pet psychic and she explained that animals do understand us when we speak to them -- I started talking out loud to my cat and swear that she does understand) -- if you have something like a shirt or a towel sleep with it for a few days so it will have your scent on it and then leave it on your bed or chair or something your cat can lay on so she has your smell to comfort her too -- I usually leave a radio on for sound to comfort too. Have a good trip

If you don't already, get some cat toys for her to play with by herself...hang a toy mouse from a door frame etc. Also, leave something that smells like you where she likes to sleep if you don't mind getting hair all over it. As long as your friend plays with her when she comes over, I think she'll be ok.

There isn't much you can do if you aren't there. It is good that your friend is watching her for you while you are gone. I was gone 4 days and when I got back my cat would not leave me alone. Constantly on my lap, following me, sleeping right next to my head where as she used to sleep by my legs, purring, meowing, etc. I have been trying to make up to her with constant attention and petting but she is making me crazy.

Well at least your kitty will see a human. She might also like if you get a kitty window pirch or place a chair by the window so she can see the birds and dream of catching them. That's pretty fasinating for a cat.

I know it sounds weird, but I leave a dirty shirt out for my cat to sleep on - I guess the scent is comforting

Well just take stuff down from the table or things they can jump on because they will start knocking things down because they are lonely. Get him a friend.
