I'm opposed to capital punishment on principle: it is unlikely to have any deterrent value, and it makes official a principle that killing is okay if you feel it is justified, which I think can be very dangerous.

However, there are many Iraqis who suffered terribly under his regime, and who live in terror that Saddam might one day return to power: the possibility remains so long as he is alive. Given the instability in that country, that is not beyond the realms of possibility. I sympathise with their point of view, too, and I wouldn't demand that they continue to live with that fear.

As a Christian, I believe that only God has the right to judge a person, because only He can read hearts and discern who the person truly is.

In no way do I deny, justify or condone Saddam's crimes against humanity, but I don't think violence ever solves anything.

Of course. He's a murderer and murderers have to be punished. Face it, if he wasn't executed, He'd continue to be a threat. His 2 or 3 followers could try to spring him and put the fool back in power. We are judged by God at judgment, but during this life, if we commit horrendous crimes, we have to pay the price, regardless of what we may or may not face after death.

That's just my personal opinion, I'm not all christians, just me. Believe it or not, we don't all feel exactly the same about every single issue. Wonder why so many atheists seem to think we're all clones. Is it because you guys are all mental clones or something? Do all atheists think exactly alike about everything? I suppose that could explain why you all seem to think we're like that.

The bible says to follow the laws of the land, not the laws that you create for everyone who fears you to follow. The execution of this man was justified, he was tried and found guilty by the people of his country. He was killed by the same methods that he himself ordered for many. The bible says you live by the sword you die by the sword. He, unfortunately ordered barbaric, inhumane deaths over his 30 plus years reign of terror. Why should he not meet the same fate.

There must be a more painful way of execution.

If you want to pray or start feeling sorry,
feel sorry for they who were killed by Saddam orders
and pray for the surviving families.

Nothing shows the true nature of Christian love other than a good old fashion execution. I surprised that have planned a book burning as an added bonus.

The good book says that if you take a life, yours is forfeit. Why, are you one of the ACLU types who has a soft spot for killers?

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but as a Christian, I am against the death penalty. However, he was a very evil man, and he should be dealt with.
